Aadhaar fraud: Ex-tax official’s 2 plots sold off

Aurangabad: Two 4,000 sq ft plots each in a prime locality here, belonging to a former income tax commissioner, were sold off after making an Aadhaar in his name and acquiring a general power of attorney in Mumbai, reports Mohammed Akhef.
The main suspect—Azam alias Azam Panga Abdul Rehman Khan (49) of Aurangabad—who was picked up from Mumbai, has been remanded in police custody till January 18.
A hunt has been launched for his accomplices, including the one who made a fake Aadhaar and posed as the retired I-T commissioner Omkar Ganpat Ganveer.
Arrest may help uncover more land fraud cases
Inspector Shrikant Navle of the economic offences wing (EOW) of Aurangabad police said the retired income tax commissioner resides in Mumbai and owns the plots in Aurangabad that were sold off fraudulently.
This report in Times of India (January 17, 2018) shows how easy it is to make Aadhaar Card in any one's name. Hope UIDAI will take note of this incident which has come to light. Root cause prima facie appears to be UIDAI assigning the work of Aadhaar Enrolment to Private Agencies. more

These fraudsters should be severely punished in the court of justice & barred in any Indian civil activities. more
When there is a property transaction, even though an Aadhaar number be used as id proof, unless the sub registrar's office checks the validity through biometrics, we cannot catch fakes. This is nothing do with UIDAI, but with the registration procedure. Every state should insist on AAdhaar as id proof and verify the seller and buyer through biometrics. This will be more or less fool proof. Which is why there are petitions and campaigns to stop Aadhaar! more
true, fake news sell by aadhaar and we wasting our time. more
Good example of the possibility of criminal misuse of Aadhaar. This needs to be remedied. However, one swallow does not make a summer. Hence, I am all for Aadhaar since it will break the backbones of all corrupt people and illegal financial transactions, especially of terrorists who have illegal funds in India. more
