Abolish Service Charge at Restaurants

Some restaurants are still imposing Service Charge and bluntly refusing to remove it. Upon asking, they show some old notification of ministry of consumer affairs. Not just that some 5 star hotel restaurants are still imposing service charge for even cake that you buy (not even eat there).

If 90% people in your survey are saying abolish service charge, why cant the ministry issue a clear cut advisory stating the same. more

hi sanjana, i'm copying my post written a few months back on the subject. "This ambiguity of service charge being optional is created by govt only and no one else can be blamed for this. Let there be a complete clarity on tax payable and the service charge should be at the discretion of customers only, whether to pay or not and how much to pay in case it is to be paid. Once there is clarity well defined then no hotel / restaurant, how big or small, can indulge in such fraudulent practices." more
Tax authorities are silent as their palms are being greased. more
Yes, it is essential and the Tax authorities are silent spectactors. more
i have seen some restaurants at oberoi mall they put notice near entrance, if you are not willing to pay service charge then you can dine in some other restaurant, this is arrogance, monopoly, Govt should remove service charge, Not optional more
I feel that Government can not abolish Service Charge being charged by Service Providers particularly in Restaurants. In case individuals do not like to pay this amount to such service providers only alternative is for the people to ensure not to visit such place again. more
