ABOUT BANK ATMS

ATMs are beneficial to bank customers and banks . Debit Card and Credit Card usage is also beneficial to all the concerned. But ATM looting and card frauds are increasing day by day. There is need of change in IPC for punishing all the fraudulent persons with more strict laws to create a fear in them.

Regarding ATMs, some suggestions:-

1. Too many ATMS have been installed in close vicinity without assessing the requirements in that area. RBI's instructions that all bank branches should have ATMs must be reviewed. If ATMs are having less than 100 transactions, these are not economical. Besides so many ATMs are wasting electricity as the lobbies of ATMs have provision of lighting and AC 24*7*365.

2. Except at following places , night operations in ATMs should not be there:-

a. ATMs installed at big railway stations/bus stands/Airports.
b. ATMs installed at District Govt Hospritals and big private hospitals having working 24*7*365.
c. ATMs installed at big factories working 24*7*365.
d. ATMs installed at police stations having working during night times.
e. ATMs installed in Big Malls etc having security 24*7*365.

For surveillance during night of non working ATMs, there should be a joint agency of all banks for this purpose with online security system check.

The ATMs becomes uneconomical when aspect of their repair and security(individual ATM wise) is taken into account. more

Shri Umakanta Behera Please report the problem with such ATM, gving its No. or exact location to the concerned Bank. If the Bank still does nothing report in this circle and to the head office of the bank or on the help number which is normally given on the ATM Card. Reducing the number of ATM's should be done with caution as this may put the users to difficult. Maintaining ATM's is much cheaper than opening and running a branch or issuing trave;-cards which many banks were doing earlier. more
