Accelerating plans to launch electric vehicles : jobs at risk
The automobile industry is an important driver of growth. Accelerating plans to launch electric vehicles to further cut carbon dioxide emissions and other pollutants can put jobs at risk.
Electric vehicle's powertrains are made of fewer parts and require less maintenance than combustion engines, which can potentially result in layoffs. In engines and transmissions' production alone, jobs can be put to risks.Further automation of vehicle production may not be sufficient to support the current level of jobs.
To cut down the pollution level, electric vehicles are promoted.
more Need, Innovation and Technology are an ever evolving fields. Whatever is new always catches the imagination and interest of humans. The current field of human interest is saving the environment by reducing all sources of pollution (Air, Water, Land, Space). While most of the Governments across the world are helpless in tackling the pollution challenge, Academia and Industry are coming out with new solutions to minimize / reverse the pollution, which people are trying to embrace slowly based on the availability and affordability. Transportation is a basic human need since the evolution began. During the ages transportation has seen many revolutions from walking to running to domesticated animals (Donkeys, mules, horses, oxen, buffaloes, elephants, camels etc) to fossil fuel power (steam engine, petrol engine, diesel engine and electric engine) and now to renewable power (hydro, wind, solar). Although wind was used primarily in the middle ages also its use was limited to water based transportation only in the form of sails on ships / boats. Every form of transportation had its advantages and disadvantages. The disadvantages always lead to the evolution of the new technology. And with each new evolution (or revolution) the old industry dies down and the new industry emerges. If we want to take a lesson from history with each new evolution the economy has only grown and led to further progress of human race. In today's world the biggest disadvantage of fossil fuels is its availability (cost) and the biggest concern pollution. There are not enough resources of fossil fuels to last till our generation. Hence the race for the new technology of non fossil fuel based transportation. This is now evolving in various forms like - battery powered, hydrogen powered, solar powered, electric powered, water powered etc. Electric powered is currently gaining ground because of availability and cheap cost but it will not last long as electricity production process is itself fossil fuel based. In the long term it will eventually pave the way for solar powered or hydrogen powered transportation. Nobody can stop this evolution because sooner or later this will happen and sooner the better. So be assured that the people who will lose jobs today will get absorbed in the new industries.

What is more important for the future generation- Environment or job creation. Obviously its environment and adopting latest technology. If pollution is not controlled next gen human species will have multiple health risk. Would you want your children to expose to pollution related health issue. Let us make our planet more livable.

My question to Debashish Datta: What is your opinion, in this time of bad pollution of the environment what is more necessary "Healthcare" or "Employment". I am for healthcare and promoting joint families.

Aim is to provide zero local emission mass public transportation system with high passenger capacity.
Key challenge as a developing country with per capita energy consumption below global average, is to 'meet the growing demand for energy'. India's transformation to a gas-based economy and developing bio-fuels can potentially achieve the needed carbon reduction target. This is in addition to promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency measures.
Health-care eco-system need more attention and attract more investments.

Agreed that there will be a significant job loss but the same can never be a ruse for not opting for the revolutionary (more appropriately Evolutionary) step of adopting a cleaner greener technology. The same will be repeated with the conventional energy industry like coal and oil & natural gas. All these workforce should be absorbed in service sector. In fact, most of the workforce in future would be in the service sector and there would be minimal manpower employed in manufacturing.. Let's save our Earth..our nourishing Mother..before it's too late...
