Accident Causes and Safety Directions

In a review last week with the Railway Minister, two major causes leading to accidents were identified as :
a) Unmanned Level Crossings accounted for 34% of accidents in 2016-17
b) Derailments due to defects in tracks

The special focus of the meeting was to identify measures to reduce accidents due to derailments which has emerged as one of the major causes of Train accidents.

Minister of Railways gave following directions to the Railway Board to ensure Safety:

1) All unmanned level crossings should be eliminated expeditiously on the entire Indian Railway network in a year’s time from now. The earlier target was to eliminate these in 3 years but by using Transformative mantra of “Speed, Skill and Scale” this target has been expedited to less than 1 year now.
2) Track Replacement/renewal should be accorded Priority & the tracks (rails) earmarked for use for constructing new lines should be diverted to places/ stretches which are prone to accidents & where replacement is due.
3) The procurement of new rails should be expedited on a large scale with a view to complete construction of new lines in time.
4) The manufacturing of conventional ICF design coaches should be stopped forthwith & new design LHB coaches only should be manufactured.
5) Anti-Fog LED lights should be installed in Locomotives so that unhindered safe train operations can be ensured during fog season.
The Minister directed the Railway Board to monitor implementations of this action plan on a regular basis. more

Dear Sir, From my childhood, i see there was one person who always check all roots within his limit range. That time all the root/signal changing cabins was available out of platforms, one person also available at crossing, but now due to auto systems all has been attach to platforms for consuming man power, then no person seen on the track to check the roots. before we think about Metro Rail, first we will think about the track packing method to avoid derailments of the railway. Also go through the machinery which intimate us about track breaking. Thanks more
If Minister can just check the condition of rails particularly that at change over points at NEW delhi rails station, It would be clear. Maintenance and audit is Major lacunae. Also why not install cctv along lines for safety. The staffs at railway crossings are other wise idle only. They can monitor. We are talking about bullet train and unable to run sample train. more
Under the subject heading "about us",it is stated that local circles are formed to cultivate friendship among members so that it becomes easy for them to borrow ladder from the neighbor or some such trivial act. Why not rename the circle as friendship circle so that people will know circle is not much concerned with railway safety / improvement. more
Railway minister has stated that 34 % of all accidents are caused by unmanned level crossings. He has also asked the railway board to eliminate all unmanned level crossings within a year. 5 years back railway minister when presenting the railway budget promised that all unmanned level crossings will be closed within a year. But most of these crossings still continue to exist even though they can be easily managed with remote closing / opening gates controlled from the nearest railway station with the help of a CCTV camera . Railway minister has to look into this matter and identify reasons for this indifference on the part of the railway officials. If any body is expecting money transfer for starting the work ,he should be thrown out and replaced by sincere honest official. Let us hope Modi's promised corruption free ambience will prevail.Jai hind. more
Railways have formed the local circles and invited suggestions from the public. Are they not duty bound to give some feedback on the suggestions received. If a suggestion is feasible technically and economically, Railways must acknowledge that .If not feasible ,same should be conveyed to the contributor with reasons for rejection. If all suggestions are ignored people will be discouraged from offering any more suggestions. No scope for money transfer. more
