Accidental and Theft insurance

It is very nice proposal from Railways. Pro-acts from IR will enrich our circle and as well citizens will bless IR. I think though Rupees two is minimum for any insurance to a certain amount, but better it now for time being may be kept as an optional one. When citizens will see that their fellow are getting claims for lost items it will automatically opt for paid insurance at minimal amount.
Now I think IR must think to reduce cancellation charges of tickets to previous rate as no one at wish do cancel tickets. Sure, there may be some unscrupulous agents who block tickets in most traveled trains to important METROs, but general public is not happy with this cancellation charge. If a ticket value is Rs.200, only on cancellation one gets half of the value of ticket. It is very heart breaking.
Also, IRCTC must stop charging service charge as already IR is charging service charge on a ticket. It must be stopped. Otherwise it will lead to legal battle by citizen and not in consonance with fair trade practice. No one can be taxed twice for one reason and one service.
Now GST is passed, IR must stop also service tax from passengers. IR should not charge service tax as as a consumer as a traveler one passenger pays for any travel and IR has thus put to burden to serve the ticket holder. So in any was IR cannot claim service tax from passenger. For IR service passengers are paying the due ticket fare. So any service tax from IR to passengers will be illogical one and illegal. more

Railway is anyway bound to ensure safe and accident free service. Otherwise it is liable to pay damages. By introducing the insurance scheme, railways have hit two birds with the same stone. 1) They have shifted their liability to insurance companies and public will pay for the insurance premium (2) The railways will not now have to pay any claim amount. On the contrary, they will earn commission out of the insurance premium, which will run atleast into a few hundred crores annually. THis scheme is not good. But most will do wah wah because their involvement is only Rs.2/- least realising the above facts. Slowly the Rs.2/- will become Rs.20/- in no time. Just wait and see. more
Pilferage & Theft takes place when the Coaches are in YARDS, At large. Is there any mechanism to stop this? Secondly, most of the Goods train stops frequently at deserted areas, there is enough opportunity of THEFT, (many a times in connivance of Guard & Driver) Unless there is total accountability, these things can never stop. more

As European I never understood why Indian rail was refunding partially after train left... It is simply not done be it in U.S.A be it in French German Netherlands Luxmeburg Belgium railways... But even days before train leaves??? Different price level tickets exist for resrvation tickets: partially refundable cost at least 50% more, full flexible tickets up to double.... what means with a normal priced ticket you not get a dollar or a euro or a roopie back!!! In western countries if your travel journey is unsure then it is your loss having taken the cheapest ticket category whenever something make you cancel your journey more
