Accountability of Election Commission

Does Election Commission have any accountability ? How do they ensure free and fair elections, when they do not make any effort to ensure the citizens are enlisted as Voters ? Whose job is it ? Why are they being paid their salaries in the name of election commission officials ? What is their output ? It is time we all challenged the status quo. I had been a voter since last 29 years. But I could cast my only twice. Once immediately after I became eligible to vote at a very young age and the second in 1996 when TN Seshan was the CEC. Ever since then, I had been submitting the form for registration as a voter but has been denied my and my families' voting rights by the election commission. Take the latest instance - I had submitted my electoral registration form in October 2013 for a fresh registration at the Belapur Election Office. But my name never came in the list. So I went personally to their office in Belapur on 14th March 2014, but only to be told that the concerned officials receiving the forms have taken two days holidays. And 16th March was sunday. 17th March was HOLI day. So, office closed. I went to this office again on 19th March, but only to be told that these forms would not any longer be accepted. And there were two policemen posted at the door of the office, not to allow anybody inside. Now How do I get myself registered as a Voter. Election commission has started using even force by deploying policemen, denying a genuine voter his voting rights. I was not the only one exception. Each time I went to this office, I found hundreds of other citizens unable to register themselves as voters. How on earth are you saying you have free and fair elections ? Are the citizens not allowed to register themselves as voters ? Do any of these officials have any accountability to get the citizens registered ? Whose job is it any way ? This is not democracy. This is simply Mediocrity at its worst. more

67 years and voter list not done properly because the culture of doing things to a standard is not there. AADHAR has been another failure and at what cost and who has paid for it. All the money has been distributed and NO accountability. Why has AK not talked about it. AK has been wasting his energy on As, B and C. Is AADHAR another scam ............ needs to be probed by experts .... ?? more
Dear Sebin Jose ji, I also feel for you that you are unable to cast your vote. This is not new for this so called drama of Democracy. After every year the old story we can here from EC is SORRY.It always tries to blame the people of this country for their mistakes. why can't be take actions who are involved in it. Are our parliamentarians respect the judgement of the supreme court . No .What happen in the case of RTI for political parties even after supreme court judgement ,they are passing a bill in parliament so that they can't come under RTI. These are Jokes of this so called democracy and the powers of judicial system. Frankly speaking ECI also not having enough power to control malfunctions in elections.Until & unless they take some drastic step these parties & political leaders wont have fear . But how ECI will do this it is also the same coin of this system, which work according to muscle & money power. Shame on DEMOCRACY in which we are living. Further UDHAV BHISE has given some suggestions in this circle on up date of voters list. go thru once. more
Though I had highlighted my experience on 21st March itself, it is shocking to find such widespread experiences of people all over the country unable to exercise their franchise due to deletions without their knowledge. Is this not a shattering of democratic rights of the Indians ? Does no one have any responsibility for this ? Why should even the Peoples' Representation Act come in the way of ensuring all citizens have their voting rights secured by the Govt. Machinery or the Election commission ? Why should the names enrolled by the citizens on their own right and accord in their electoral rolls be deleted by the Govt. Machinery / Election Commission, without the knowledge and permission of the Voter? If the EC takes the initiative to delete the names from the Electoral rolls on their own accord, why should the EC also not ensure that all the citizens have their names enrolled on the electoral rolls by EC itself ? Where does the buck stop ? Why should the EC tender apology after having denied the voter his constitutional rights ? Why should they not face action ? Where the Free and Fair election ? Do the people now realize the importance of TN Seshan and his firm actions on this front ? Was he not criticized for his firm concrete steps to ensure the citizens their constitutional rights ? Do people now know why the political parties hated him and ensured that he was not given any extension of tenure ? Do we all now need to rebuild the credibility of the Institution of EC ? more

Better you lodge a complaint in the website of state election commission website with a copy to central election commission. Hope for a better action . That entirely depends on the state election commissioner. How much he was interested & honest on his job. more
