Senior citizen club members of Barddhaman(BWN) tried to book tickets of 9 persons in Rajdhani Express on 5th August 2015 for their journey to Delhi from Howrah on 7th November 2015. Not a single lower birth is allotted them during booking through irctc website. All tickets are given in upper bearth only. As among the 10 5 seniors unable to sleep in upperbirth they have cancelled the entire tour. I want to ask the railway authority that why this thing happend during reservation though ticket has booked 3 months before?There should be preference for all senior citizens in to book lower birth. Can you not change the software of irctc where berths should be allotted by keeping mind of the age of the passenger ? more  
I have been thinking for quite some time to post my views on measures to be adopted to improve railways and make it profitable. Railways have large chunk of land along the track and around railway stations. These land if utilised properly will not only generate revenue but also prevent encroachment, beautify area around stations, generate employment and ensure safety. Methods to be adopted are as under:- - Area along the track which is fairly levelled should be utilised for horticulture/floriculture/plantation/vegetable. production. Area could be given on lease to local people/ retired railway agencies. thus generating employment and ensuring safety of tracks. It will also beautify the area along the tracks. - Places along the track which are undulating can be used for social forestry/ diary/poultry/fish farming. - Area along stations to be cleared of slums. Space to be utilised to create gardens where passengers in waiting can rest. Cafeteria/shops could be added. In bigger stations shopping malls could be created. Where larger area exists chai of railway schools /colleges could be created to provide better education to locals and especially to railway employees. Even guest rooms can be created to make accommodation available to passengers who otherwise stay in out side hotels. Establishing hospitals could be examined to treat patients both civil and railway employees. - Shopping malls near station to sell produce from area along the tacks which could be brought through passenger trains. Social forestry produce could be sold locally as fire woods for villagers. - railway being present in all places can create handicraft kiosks at stations by collecting these from various parts of the country. this is likely to be craze among foreigners as they will get genuine products at a competitive price. - All these measures will generate huge revenue , ensure safety of tracks, prevent encroachment and generate employment. Problem of unmanned level crossing can also be solved. People taking land on lease if provided with mobile communication can provide almost real time information of mishaps on occurrence. more  
I would like to draw attention of Rly that travel time from Kanpur to Mughalsarai (Via Allahabad) TO & FRO is 153 KM. In the Allahabad zonal railway, no importance are being given to Rajdhani/Duronto trains as a result trains get late when reached MUGHALSARAI (UP trains) and when reached KANPUR Central (DN trains) trains get late. It is realised that particular Allahabad Divisional Rly Section is becoming worse even in summer time in Rajdhani & Duronto. Further on enquiry from a T.T. behind regular late at Allahabad Division, T.T shared his bad experience that trains i.e. 12314/12274/12302/12260- Rajdhani & Duronto are always delayed. But after crossing MUGHALSARAI (via Dhanbad/Patna) above trains runs on time. I too experienced that after crossing VINDYACHAL towards MUGHALSARAI a short/long haul at JEONATHPUR became a regular problem before reaching MUGHALSARAI JN(EAST CENTRAL RLY). Sometime, Duronto was forced to stop at Allahabad Station when no technical/non-technical stoppage. Similarly, in UP trains coming from HWH/PATNA/ SEALDAH towards Delhi even trains like Rajdhani/Duronto became late when reached Kanpur Central towards Delhi. When the trains are running in time upto Mughalsarai (UP trains) and upto KANPUR (DN trains), will Rly Board will take corrective actions for unnecessary stoppage at Ahraura Road & Jeonathpur enroute Mughalsarai Jn. If a survey is seriously done by Rly Board under the Hon'ble RM, it can also be seen from maximum trains are get late between Allahabad to Kanpur and vice-versa. more  
Prabhu ji ..online booking of unreserved tickets and platform tickets must be allowed to reduce rush on the queues because early morning its not possible to reach desired station and take tickets as well and it will promote paperless ticketing and increase revenues more  
In all pantry cars, you have a huge display board in which hundreds of items are displayed with their rates, but the pantry does not provide any of these. They only supply their standard meals and if asked for any special items as per one's need, a negative reply is given. A system to take orders on the basis of requirement should be made - otherwise, the display board should only contain what is being supplied by the pantry. Complaint books are never made available to the passengers by the pantry managers. This matter should be looked into. Vendor boys of the pantry are supposed to give tea/coffee measuring 150 ml. They give only 100 ml and don't care even if you make a complaint. Every body is pocketing whatever is possible by looting the passengers. more
