Actions taken on your ecommerce legal metrology complaints

Several of the members have shared screen shots of how some of the ecommerce sites have been violating the legal metrology packaged commodity rules 2017 amendment by not displaying MRP, best before date (human consumption products) and country of origin information on their sites etc.

Please note that LocalCircles has escalated most of these complaints to the Dept of Legal Metrology, Govt of India and CCPA (Central Consumer Protection Authority)

In the most recent submission, complaints against Meesho, Shopee and Swiggy Instamart were escalated. Inputs from the Government indicate that notice has been issued against Meesho for violating Country of Origin and other norms, paid fines of Rs 75,000 previously and been reminded again of legal action. Action on MRP and best before date non-compliance is yet to take place and we are awaiting details of action taken on Shopee and Swiggy Instamart.

LocalCircles has recommended that in cases where the non-compliance is seller driven, legal metrology must issue notices and where it is platform driven, CCPA must also take action.

All such steps will help in minimising consumer grievances and enable consumer protection. more

There is no need to outsource. BIS has enough capabilities. It is the biggest cooperative, there are a large number of committees with experts who prepare drafts as love of labour to serve the consumers and industry alike. They seem to be already on the job.It should be ensured that the American model is not followed by them which if followed will bring in conflict of interest more
Good news. BIS may take help of secondary work force or out sourced work force to cover all the areas. All the best. more
