The safety whitepaper submitted by the circle in 2016 has been actively worked upon. With this post we would like to seek your inputs on any other safety related issues you have observed in 2018 in regards to Railway Travel so solutions can be discussed and acted upon.
I agree a vast improvement has gone through in Railways. However, it is totally unfit for the disabled and invalid persons who cannot walk to the toilet or cannot sit and able to get up from the western toilet. There should be at least a few coaches in all classes and separate compartment with a wide opening and the toilet is physically challenged friendly. They must be able to use the health facet for wash and able to enter and come out by a wheel chair. In higher classes these persons should be able to use in the compartment partition itself. The patrician should be of more area to accommodate the physically challenged persons family too , say, 5 to 6 births and the fare also to be increased accordingly. In the absence of such facilities these persons cannot travel by train for long distance. I am writing this only in respect of long journey where day and night travel is involved. more
Do away with Pantry Cars. They are a compromise on safety, hygiene, economy and efficiency of the Indian Railways. Instead register accredited local restaurateurs/ eateries in every Railway station to deliver food to passengers who have booked their meal / food over e-mail/ mobile application. more
Maintenance of coaches needs immediate attention. Even 10yrs back coaches were much better maintained. To improve upon 1. All TTE may be given a form to fill up & submit after the journey about deficiency in the respective coach. He can easily obtain feedback from passengers too. This will be useful for maintenance staff to attend/fix particular points which otherwise might have been overlooked during general checking/inspection. 2. Adequate maintenance time to be provided after each trip for the rake. 3. Every winter there are a few cases of 'Rail Crack' which some time turn into a major accident. So we may look out for solution through i) Improvement on basic material of rail. ii) Increase in number of expansion joints. iii) Developing method for electronic surveillance for continuity. Steel plants manufacturing track rails-RITES-RDSO should look into the mater. 4. All Foot Over Bridge to be equipt with escalator. This will discourage people to cross Rly track on foot. more
Passenger safety is kicked backwards by the employees of Railways owned coach building factories. The employees do not follow the assembly process and so the quality inspectors too I had seen new coaches furnished by coach factories with good and quality kits sourced from vendors. All employees became unskilled and irresponsible and require retraining and skill development I am a senior citizen frequently travel in 2 & 3 tier AC class. My suggestion is in two stages 1. By improving skill 2. By resigning coaches For 1 above: 1. Fit the kits properly as documented in the coach building process drawing 1-1.For few decades now, Railways lost the skilled workers to unskilled class within the organisation. So employ external trainers for reskilling with quality. 1-2. Conduct quality audit by internal auditors on the work of each staff, put the auditor responsible for necessary followup to improve quality of assembly. 1-3. Successive audits showed improve the it is alright. If no improvement, the auditors should refer to HRD for necessary allotment of skilled staff in assembly line., so the fixtures can be easily operated by the kids to senior citizens including differently abled. 1-4. Provide convenient ladders in 3 tier coaches in place of existing unusable ladder structures For 2 above: 1-1. Redesign coaches to ensure low cost, light weight, easy to use fittings properly fixed, practical ladders in 3 tier, more number of power out sockets with standard volts and amps, addl AC vents 1-2. Improve qualty of assembly with retrained and reskilled staff. more
Hon'ble Minister for Railways, Sir, The Indian Railways is a Legend for the world. It's vast network, stations, and the volume of people transported impresses any economist of the world. It's not only a transport organisation it's s social network of India in true sense through which even a common man who is earning daily wages can afford to travel to almost any part of of this vast country. But the technology and quality of coaches need to be upgraded. The coach technology is from WW-II era. The coaches should be built by private companies like Alsthom, Bombardier, Mitsubishi and should be of latest technology. I don't think this country needs very high speed but definitely needs high tech coaches because it directly effects the comfort of rail passenger.
