Addressing Child Labour - Addl Inputs

Below are some of your key inputs on what can be done to address the issue of child labour. Kindly review and if you have any additional inputs, please share. We will be compiling this and sharing the same with Ministry of Women and Child Development and Ministry of Home Affairs for actions.

Addressing Child Labour - Citizen Inputs

1. Self-help groups and the youth should be effectively engaged to tackle the problem
2. The reporting of child labour should be made easy
3. A national helpline integrated with online reporting should be started where people can report instances of child labour that they have noticed, without too many questions being asked
4. The big amounts allocated by the Government towards eradication of child labour should be put to proper use
5. Special campaigns should be done by police at station level to bust child labour rackets
6. Children from BPL backgrounds should be ensured free education and food till class 8 in Government schools
7. NGOs could also help by training these kids for skilled jobs till the time they attain a certain age
8. They could also give them a monthly stipend as an incentive to attend regular skilling classes
9. The Government could also start schemes where each BPL child is given a certain amount of stipend if he attends regular school
10. More awareness should be created about what is permissible and non-permissible child employment
11. People employing child labour in their hazardous material factories should be tried strictly as per the law
12. Citizens should be appealed not to visit/patronize any place employing child labour
13. In all tenders of govt. and private sectors, a clause of no child labour employed be made compulsory
14. Child begging rackets should be broken and children should be sent to orphanages for rehabilitation
15. Local Circles should be established with local police and NGOs in every city of India so any citizen can take a picture and report child labour anonymously
16. Surprise inspections should be conducted in child labour prone industries like fireworks, diamonds, silk, mining, services, etc with on spot actions. more

This Government under the leadership of Mr Modi has done a lot and are planning to do a lot to enhance our stature and image, apart from trying to raise our poor hapless citizenry. However he and his government must control the FRINGE ELEMENTS and Motormouths and restrict their acts, which is negating all the good that he and his government is doing. more
I agree the comments of Sudhansu Misra, if law is properly implemented then it is possible.l more

It is no use if existing laws are not implemented properly. If punishment is given fast and correctly then everything will work. Corruption in government, justice, police, etc are the real problem. more
