Addressing rapes or gang rapes-Do we really care?
Writing on the subject as the latest horrifying incident about the mother and daughter leaves me with a sense of deep anger,anguish,and helplessness at the state of affairs in our nation. Should not the law now allow citizens of India to freely arm themselves in self defence and protection of their families? This aspect is being wondered about, since neither the law makers nor law keepers are able to find a solution to the daily rapes happening in the country as also other innumerable atrocities. A fifteen year old is burnt because he fights off goondas in order to save the modesty and honour of his mother. Anti social elements do not seem to be scared of the law keeping forces nor of the provisions of the IPC. They seem to be well aware of the file and drag system of the judiciary. So then, in such a scenario should not the citizens of the country be allowed to defend their person and property through legally armed means? Drastic one may say, but what else should good peace loving citizens turn to?
People will take to the streets once again, politicians will play the same blame game again,the media will rave and rant again,law keepers will orchestrate their rehearsed parts again, and the public will once again forget- until the time a new incident takes place. अशोक जी ,आप द्वारा पनिकर जी को को दिये उत्तर से मैं सहमत होते हुये भी जजो की कमी के बहाने से सहमत नहीं हूँ क्यूंकी जिला न्यायालय मे जजों द्वारा किए जा रहे काम के घंटे बहुत ही कम है जिसके बढ़ोत्तरी एवं लंबित मुकदमो के निबटाक्न के संबंध मे भी चिंता करनी चाहिए हमारे CJI को - क्या कभी यह जानने का प्रयाश किया गया की ज़िला न्यायालय 365 दिन मे कितने दिन काम करती है और कितने दिन वकीलो के हड़ताल के कारण बंद रहती है - उत्तर प्रदेश मे आए दिन बंदी -वजह किसी वकील का किसी से रास्ते या घर पर झगड़ा हो जाये तो बंद ,शोक सभा के बाद बंद इत्यादि ? इन पर अंकुश क्यूँ नहीं ?इसमे कोई दो राय नहीं की राजनीति का पूर्ण आपराधिकरण हो चुका है इसलिए वे किसी भी दृस्टिकोड से सही नहीं है पर क्या न्यायपालिका अपने को संसद से भी ऊपर दिखाने का प्रयाश नहीं कर रहा ? क्या न्यायपालिका से जुड़े वकील जो राजनीति मे प्रचुर मात्रा मे है न्यायपालिका को उसी ढर्रे पर ले जाने का प्रयाश नहीं कर रहे है ? क्या मुकदमो के लंबित होने मे वकील-पुलिस-जज तीनों की ज़िम्मेदारी नहीं बननी चाहिए ? more

Mr K Mohan Pannikkar ji, we have to come out of these fixed mind sets that a public servant must resign before criticizing a policy. If the judiciary is suffering because of shortage of judges, which is a fact, then it is the duty of CJI to raise his voice. He is constitutional authority and cant be treated just a puppet. Similarly, RBI governor is too a very learned person and has performed exceptionally well in his job. But unfortunately, the moment anybody goes against our beloved leader, we start attacking him. To correct a system criticism a must. Why should one resign from govt before criticizing its policies? Govt is not one person. RBI governor and CJI are equally important parts of this govt. In fact I feel, its the judiciary that has kept checks on the govt otherwise, by now we would have lost all hopes of democracy succeeding in this country. more

Mr SK Virmani ji, the cleaning is always done from top. And to clean out political system we have to bring in political reforms. As long as a candidate spends over 15 crore to win elections, he will need to recover that amount. Second disadvantage of this is that an honourable person without ability to spend such amount can never dream of winning elections even if people respect his honesty and capabilities unless he joins a mainstream party. And the moment he joins mainstream party his voice carries no value. It is indeed possible to prevent such huge amounts being spend during elections. In villages where all may not have TVs, public TV can be installed in public places. Election commission can ask for daily slots from all tv channels and newspapers (including private channels under CSR). These slots can be divided among all candidates /parties for declaring their manifesto/ambitions and having controlled debates. Ban rallies, ban house to house visits, impose curfew if need be except for the tv slots. more

There are some useful discussions going on on very important subjects that are linked. if there was no corruption, the police would have been more effective and the rapists would have been scared of law. You are welcome to contribute with your valuable suggestions. If you dont wish to participate, then you are free to open new thread we shall contribute with our ideas. But lets not suggest closing down a thread till everyone has exhausted his their ideas. Once everyone has exhausted his/her ideas the thread will automatically become non active. more
