Ads of India..Sorry..achchey din of Times
Today..29th March,2025 Times of India on front page mentions as 56 Pages. What triggered me was first 4 pages were full page ads ..then a quarter page articles on both sides & then starts main paper Page-1 till page:28(again 6 full page ads plus 9 pages of classifieds, half page, quarter page ads & notifications). Besides the Delhi Times supplement is additional 18 Pages(here too first 5 pages are full page ads.then a quarter page articles on both sides & page:1 then actually starts with vertical half page ad of Aditya Birla:Fashion & Page:2 with half page ad followed by full page ads on pages:3,7,13,16 & 17(5 pages). Also in this 25.5 pages mention is of 18 Pages..most pages of articles too carry quarter or half page ads. Less content, more ads, more revenue....full profitable business at discounted exemptions under News Print business. So if you total each page up irrespective of Ads.it is 61 pages(I counted the half cut pages in main & supplementary as 1 page). Isn't TOI cheating by pocketing revenues of 5 full pages and by claiming 56 Pages on the Main Paper header(attaching both). Please share the views to FM: Nirmala Tai.
Even TV serials are full of Ads. Ads is the basic source of income. But too much of ads bores the viewers. It should be reduced.

'The Hindu' also follows a similar approach subtly. The Saturday, March 29 edition of the Chennai city paper displays the text "42 pages ₹5" at the top left of the front page. On this page, there are two types of numerical indicators—one consisting of plain numbers and the other combined with letters, such as J1, J2, J3, J4, etc. The breakdown includes 20+8+8 and J2 + J4. The pages labeled with "J" are full-page advertisements, while the others contain regular news with partial-page ads. This system helps The Hindu readers distinguish between editorial content and full-page advertisements. At lest we subscribers get an indication how we pay.
