AGAIN ON TATKAL RESERVATION

The tatkal reservation has again, after a gap has become something impossible. I think with the introduction of the "taktal for sure", the screen starts blinking till the tatkal quota is over. Even during this time the ordinary booking is also impossible. I suggest for an urgent intervention, so that the unscrupulous touts, who have now entered the field is eliminated early.

IN this regard, I also repeat an earlier suggestion made by me that the tatkal booking should be made available only just before 24 hours of the scheduled departure of the train, so that the rush during the 10 am and 11 am is split throughout the day. Suitable schedule should be prepared for the odd hours, such as between 23.00 hours and 1.00 hours. more

I am a frequent traveller and senior citizen. I recollect over5 15 years, I use IRCTC website for booking my train travel tickets. It is unfortunate that we grew up in 70 years as just literates with total ignorance on developments over the years. I have the right to upgrade my knowledge and skill. I should admit that I have no right to remain not updated in knowledge. Reluctance to use developed features and facilities of administration is nothing but not co-opewrating with administration. Be it Govcernment, be it PSU, Private services etc. Looking at comments, the human force in any organisation is the breeding place for all happenings. My point is that our reluctance to upgrade ourself is making the literate staff of service agencies to exploit us. The administration over the years ensured that the citizens are not updated in skill or reskilled, the basics for any nation. All literates need to reskill, else get out of the main stream and stay within four walls. more  
I am sorry but even within four walls it is impossible to exist without upgrading our skills particularly in usage of internet etc.for routine transactions.
Govt of India, Universities, colleges etc. should, in conjunction with Adult Literacy Programs, also include sessions on usage of modern devices etc. like mobile, computer, etc., even ordering of vegetables on internet, payment of electricity bills online.
GOI also should ensure that important messages etc. are given not only in Hindi but also in English and other regional languages.
In Central Railway Station, Chennai, where I accompanied my colleagues and their friends from Maharashtra regarding their onward (Tatkal) reservations, I was intrigued to find that all displays were only in English, not even in Tamil or in Hindi. This happened in October 2017.

I agree with you. I think the tatkal quota should be increased and the super tatkal, on normal rates done for MP's /MLAs' quota, it should be decreased, so that the needy person may be able to avail the facility easily. more  
I agree to it. Even government knows it. But they will not do it. There is a super tatkal, on normal rates done for MP's /MLAs' quota. For some elected people it has become a source of income. For a better government everything should be wrong, so educated people run for Laws and clever get a confirmed ticket. Best way pay money and eat honey. more  
Some of us who elected the present government are truly disheartened at this.

I entirely agree with your view. Also while one books his/her tickets on line and mentions Sr.Citizen, the system should automatically allot only Lower Berths and not Middle and Upper Berths in 3 Tier AC Coach and Upper Berth in 2 Tiet AC Coach as Sr.Citizens either due to Back and Knee Problem or due to heavy weight are unable to climb and find it very difficult to get their seats exchanged with the copassengers. This is a very serious matter and I and my wife in our recent trip from Vadodara to Mumbai, Mumbai to PUne and return suffered lot. more  
Agree. regarding automatic allotment of lower berths to senior citizens. I have booked counter tickets for self and husband both aged 70+ and 1 person aged 40 in AC2. We have been allotted one lower and one upper for self and husband and one LOWER for person aged 40, that too not together in the coach. Strange allotment when a Lower berth was available why was it not allotted to my husband and when 3 passengers are booking together, why are they not allotted consecutive berth numbers. The two 70+ need the assistance of the 40+ during the journey. How can he be running between two berths that are far apart especially during the night. this is for a long journey from Howrah to Chennai on Coromandal Express. more  
This is a critical and ver-present problem in Indian Railways online booking. IT always finds ways to lock up tickets from the backend, forcing genuine passengers to go through agents. more
