Air Conditioner Servicing Standards
Recently saw this circle on localcircles. Are there any standards for air conditioner servicing.? At our home the AC mechanics filled up more gas than usual and the same night the compressor burst. Compressor cost is 1.5 lakhs. The ac mechanic not ready to bear the same. Really terrible situation. more

My suggestion,never allow AC gas filling and welding in house.This should be done only in workshops and some body should physically see the gas presser on their meters before assembly of AC.There have been cases of compressor busting and catching fire. more

In many countries, repair/servicing of machineries/equipments etc. (including electrical,plumbing, etc.) can be done only by licensed technicians who have to undergo theoretical,practical/internee training at recognised institutes to get such licence(s). Unfortunately, in India, such licensed technicians are overwhelmed by illiterate or semi-literates who even cannot properly pronounce the technical terms. Shortage of such competent technicians makes their services costly. Demand - supply gap is filled up with incompetent/counterfeit individuals. We common consumers fall upon such fellows because of lack of our knowledge and high labour charge for such technicians. This is a bright example to describe the paradox of high unemployment coexisting with unavailability of skilled labour. more

A very serious issue, indeed. If the after sales service provider is the manufacturer then the mechanic would be following the specific directions. If the compressor has been procured locally with and just repaired one, then the mechanic is playing with the lives of the buyers/consumers. As in the case of car or bust/ truck tyres the air limit is prescribed by the manufacturers, similar should be in the case of compressors. Each and every compressor must carry a label giving the required technical information for consumers and engineers - a sort of label information. A big responsibility is on the shoulders of the teachers in the Industrial Training Institutes who turn out the diploma holders in such and other traders for safety and accuracy conforming to the prescribed national and international Standards. Juagadoo work must not be taught in these Institutes, which I believe is generally not there but the students must be well educated for practice. more

Standards just keep going down and prices up ? consumer right protection is a big farce ? if customer has to do all the work pay the customers simple as that - u can just complain and wait ? more

This is the case for me also. The company authorized personnel asking for a large sum for installation while the market price is much less. more
