Air India profiteering
Perhaps you may know that the Indian Government has put several restriction on the airlines. They are not supposed to carry passengers other than the one going to the country to which the particular Airlines is aligned. Thus only British Airways and Air India can book passengers for Delhi-London or Mumbai-Manchester sector. This has been the biggest factor for the AI monopoly. Earlier, even Etihad or Lufthansa or any other Airlines could book passengers to anywhere in the world. This forced them to keep the fares competitive and hence cheap. It is not due to few travelers or dynamic pricing. If the government choses to do away with such restrictions, more Airlines will come into play resulting in cheaper fares. But, does the government of the day would want that? more
