Air quality- no one gives any importance

Winter pollution in NCR starts to rise in mid-Sept and reaches a dreadful level by mid-Oct. E.g., today at 2200h, AQI in RK Puram was 703. Many are suffering as per LC survey only

But, everyone, including politicians, judiciary, and activists, talks less about it because they know they can't do anything about the real causes.

Everyone suddenly wakes up few days before Diwali and shouts at the top of their voices, blaming everything on the festival, even though the air quality was worse weeks before the festival. This bickering continues for a month after the festival, with the focus still on blaming Diwali for the continued pollution.

With time, air quality automatically improves, and people forget the issue, only to see the same cycle repeating next year. Winter smog is NCR's destiny. Pollution is not even an election issue, and no politics or judiciary is ever going to solve this problem. more

It's true that political stakeholders are always busy in engaging themselves in verbatim and blame game. The total country is swept in a different mode and no one really feels it important to resolve the issue at the ground level. It's the high time that administration introspects it well and come out with a solution instead of talking big. The crisis came up only a couple of years ago, it was never been so poor despite fuel quality & vehicle emission of pollutants were not so stringent in those days. more
Ludhiana in Punjab has AQI 255. Delhi's AQI over 400. Stop blaming Punjab's stubble burning. Introspect on NCR's diesel cars and diesel generator emissions! more
Unless responsibility is fixed with a strict penalty these politicians keep blaming the other government and do nothing. For instance if any accident occurs in an Industry the Law Enforcing Authority hold the Chief of the concerned industry responsible. Similarly for pollution in the City Respective CM, Environ Minister and the State Chief Secretary must get hauled up and Held Responsible if need be even an arrest. more
I agree to such a grave problem no one pays any attention. Already two people in my society have lost there lives due to polluted air but our respected cm sir doesn't have any time at all. Even after getting Punjab still nothing done against so tall promises. Hope people voice reaches to the top officials. more
Absolutely. No one cares. We have become used to this horrible way of living. The citizens are probably thrilled when they flout laws (using gensets, bursting crackers, using old vehicles, burning garbage and so on). Neither the government, nor the citizenry is concerned about what we have done to our air and environment. Unless we make it an election issue, nothing will ever change. Sad sad times. more
