Airlines should not charge for seat selection

I travel by air regularly and I have seen this change over last one and a half year that almost all Airlines have started charging for Preselection of seats. In my view, once a ticket is paid and paid for a particular class, airlines have already charged for the seats then why again more charges for Preselection of a seat, so it's like pay extra anywhere Rs 100 to Rs 900 and take a seat of your choice or sit in the middle seat, sandwiched between two other passengers. This is still bearable for single passengers but painful for families/ couples and groups. Due to this I have stopped doing pre check-in. I react the airport a little early and make sure that airline do not make use of the technology that they could have.

I urge the member to raise voice against that. Charges paid upfront should be the only charges, anonymity on what you will pay more is cheating. more

Earlier practice of seat allotment as per choice at check in counter is good. Charging for advance seat allotment is cheap greed. Every one wants easy money. It may be banks or airlines,No difference. more
ethically they should not..but every one knows about it and they do it openly. more
People booking in advance are also looking for a good service. Such person who are pre-planning their trip are taking maximum risk of cancellation, and the airlines also take good amount of money for cancellation. Therefore it is the airlines who should give good facilities to person who are booking ticket so early. We can together make changes in the industry by not taking seat in advance. All seats to be taken from the check in counter. This way every family would get seat of their choice and the industry will be forced to give preferential seat in advance. more
I agree with you. I never take a chargeable seat more
Very true. Don't know how DGCA has been allowing it for all this time. Cheap mentality of Indigo like airlines started this practice and today Jet, claiming to be a full service airlines also indulge into it. They show all seats except middle seats occupied while online selection, which is a deliberate wrong picture for the passengers. Later these seats are allotted to normal passengers who come to the airport. In this cheap mentality process, families/groups/couples suffer separation while in journey. DGCA must take action immediately. more
The charges for seat should not be permitted for Full Service providing airlines. The airlines falling in this Category in India are Jet Airways, Air India & Air Vistara. The other carriers like Indigo, Go Air, Air Asia, Spicejet, etc. sell tickets on much lower fares where there are many operators. However, they should also not be permitted to charge for seats and meals (which are not provided on low fares) where their fares start selling beyond a capped limit so that the travelers paying higher/very high fares are provided meals and seats of their choice frees of cost. more
