All about Dengue Fever
Conditions such as stagnant water and damp weather seen during and post monsoon gives the virus a good chance to grow. Now stagnant water comprises of even water stored in households such as in kitchen and washroom. Even plants grown inside the house gives a chance to the mosquitoes to breed. Open drains or any unhygienic place (dumping yard) increases the chance of such viral attack.
The months of August, September and October typically see a terrific increase in dengue cases. There are many who have ignored the problem thinking it could be just a fever. Here are several symptoms arising to dengue and the precautions that could be taken during the course.
Symptoms of Dengue Fever
It starts off with a sudden onset of fever. Dengue could be detected only after four to five days of fever and it could last up to ten days. Temperature goes up to 102 to 103 degrees causing discomfort. Symptoms include:
Headaches-
Joint or Muscle pain
Sore throat
Sudden high fever
Nausea
Skin rash – it appears two to five days after the onset of fever
If it is not diagnosed at the right time, it can become a serious issue. It could lead to dengue hemorrhagic fever. People have even lost lives after being attacked by this virus. People with weak immune system are also prone to this disease.
An individual will also notice sudden drop in their platelets count once the blood test is done. If the fever is too high, blood test should be repeated the next day in order to track the platelets count as well as the haemoglobin count. Even after treatment if proper care is not taken, dengue fever can relapse. NO medicines should be taken without doctor’s guidance. It is not necessary any anti-biotic could suit you.
What is the treatment for Dengue Fever?
In some cases, dengue could be treated at home. Doctors give the patient a pattern to follow right from diet to the type of medicines to be taken. One cannot identify which mosquito would be infected and so we ourselves need to ensure from all mosquito bites.
Dengue mosquitoes bite during the day. Chances are high two hours before sunrise and sunset. So avoid opening household windows early morning and keep it shut before 6pm. Cover your body by wearing full sleeves cotton outfits. Whether it is day or night use mosquito nets if you intend to take short nap or sleep for long hours.
Avoid eating junk foods during monsoon as it can affect your immune system and cause chances of fever. Whether an individual is infected or not with dengue fever, intake of liquids is a must. Your body should not be dehydrated. Proper rest and intake of plenty of water is the basic and foremost remedy. Try to follow a nutritious diet. Juice made from papaya leaf will help to increase your platelets count. Avoiding food will only weaken your body and hence proper nourishment is a must more
