ANOTHER MPORTANT DIMESION TO FOCUS ATTENTION :

During the 1980’s we had the deadly AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome ) which shook the world , India included. At least the HIV virus was not so harsh and exponential in proliferation . It had a limited area of audience and those who kept away from the guidelines didn’t get affected . Even there as it could spread through the Blood, the Doctors saw a possibility of the spread through Barbers when they shave and reuse the Razors .

SO THE FIRST TIME PRACTICE OF USE AND THROW AWAY BLADES CAME INTO BEING IN THE BARBER SHOPS . The practice is still being followed.

That was only from the Tool used in the Barber shop . But today we are exposed with a severe mode of transmission of Covid19 through Barber shops . Many of us wouldn’t have realized that our attention in the shop on and off is diverted towards the T.V. or the ever interesting conversation between the dressers and customers.

What we have to be conscious is :
* HOW CLOSE THEIR FACE IS TO OURS, CLOSER IT IS MORE CHANCE OF AEROSOLS FROM DRESSER’s BREATH OR COUGH TO CUSTOMER AND VISE VARSA.
*VERY OFTERN THEY TAKE INSTRUCTIONS FROM US OR ANSWER US STAYING CLOSE TO OUR EAR TO AVOID THE OTHER CUSTOMER LISTENING.
* WE HARDLY COUNT THE NUMBER OF TIMES HE COUGHS .
* HOW MANY TIME HE TAKES HIS HANDS TO HIS FACE .

He may be infected or bearing some from the immediate last customer , so the following to be observed :
# The number of chairs to be placed adequately .
# No need to dispose the tools as that will be another problem in the accumulating Bio non degradable Garbage – Instead each and every Tool to be sanitized before and after use .
# The hair stylist compulsorily wear a Mask
# wash hands before and after every Customer .
# Strictly washed linen to be used for each customer .
# Avoid making conversation with the customer in close quarters . Doubts can be cleared keeping a distance .

WE ARE MISSING OUR GRANDMOTHERS TODAY TO INFORM AND WARN US . That is when our Grandmothers and mothers asked us to have a bath as soon as we come from the Barber . Hair dressing was always in the morning and on a holiday (Saturday ). They didn’t have the Scientific terminology , COVID19, H1N1 etc ,
BUT DEFINITELY HAD THE FORESIGHT OF INFECTION FROM COMMON PLACE . There were many other Practices each had a meaning .

To be extra cautious, better not to visit the barber for the naxt 6 months - especially Sr. citizens who are not required to go to office. It is a bit too much to expect the Indian barber using a fresh linen for every customer and equally too much to expect the customer to pay for the additional charges. It will take a long time or both the parties to accept this concept. more
A person can possibly get COVID-19 by touching a surface or an object (e.g. doorknobs and table) that has the virus on it and then touching his own mouth, nose, or eyes --- How do we then protect the masses then? more
Yes, this is a very potential area for the spread of the disease. The dresser can keep a large bowl of soap water on the table and keep the tools in that from which he can take for use. This soap water to be replaced every now & then. Awareness about this need to be created very industriously. more
All suggestions of Mr.Daniel strictly put into use by proper message from state govts and the centre more
Mr Jayakumer's observations and suggestions are undoubtedly useful and would go a long way in avoiding an infection of the virus at barbars' shops if strictly adhered to by the shop keepers as well as by the end users. But despite observing the suggested precautions, the issue of maintaining a social distance of six feet between the service providers and the receivers in barbar shops is likely to remain unresolved, as of now when no distance between the two is practically maintained. Where as, utmost importance has been given to the distance maintanance in addition to wearing a mask to avoid an infection of the virus. A technique of providing the services at barbar shops by maintaining the required distance is yet to be developed and till then the chances of getting infected thereat despite observing other precautions remain unresolved. more
