Anti Corruption Bill Passed

First off, congratulation from me to each member of the group that the Rajya Sabha cleared anti-corruption bill yesterday.

One of the clauses of the bill all for punishment of 7 years of jail for both bribe taker and giver.

Bribe taker I agree but my concern is so much of corruption is happening in India in form of extortion. Most roadside vendors, unauthorised shops pay the police.

Will all of them be booked under this? Or does it only cover organised bribery in Govt offices and not petty corruption.

Those in the know or having opinion kindly share. more

The bill is to protect bribe takers..not bribe givers... In India the protection is offered to those who doesn't need or already has powers & money, but, not those who really needs it. It is the political tradition in India. more
The new law says that bribe givers will be punished. My question - who will complain against the bribe giver? Obviously not the bribe taker. Secondly, permission has to be obtained from the department to file a case against the bribe taker but nothing to prevent filing a case against bribe giver. If the department decides to protect the bribe taker and does not give permission, what then? Third, the law also includes private commercial organisations to be punished as bribe givers. So, am I to assume that commissions will be considered as bribes. There is no law fixing profit margin or commissions for any product. Fourth, what about bribes transacted between private parties. For example, PM Modi mentioned that Indian allopathic doctors take commissions/bribes/sponsored trips from pharmaceutical companies when he gave an interview in London. So, how does this law treat such situations. more
We have so much in corrupt daldal since ages that cleansing ourself will take centuries. No law can improve us unless we ourself decide to shun it. Every Indian is corrupt by nature. It has come into our DNA. Corrupt means no only to bribe but it is the Hippocratic behaviors of Indians which allows all sorts dirty business. Bribe is a convenience tax which the giver and taker enjoys, then who will complain of it. The bribe giver is the main culprit who for his own convenience pays to the bribe taker. more
The bribe giver cannot be considered as the main culprit because he is compelled, harassed to give bribe by the bribe taker for doing or not doing any work. Since in new amendment, bribe giver is also liable to be punished, no person will come forward to lodge any complaint against any bribe demanding person or public servant. more
If this Passed Bill is followed with transparency then 80% of Govt. employee will be in jail in simple & laymen language. more
There should not be any discrimination in laws and should be made equally applicable to the people of all sections of the society. However, it is the responsibility of the government to make the new provisions of law public with wide publicity in every nooks & corners asking the people to refrain from bribe giving to any one under any circumstances. Simultaneously, all the central & state governments should also ensure that the bribe takers among their employees irrespective of their ranks & files are promptly booked and thrown out of service promptly. But without bringing political corruptions to nil, no laws or efforts to eradicate corruption will be effective and successful. more
