Approval of Walmart purchase of Flipkart
Here is the core issue:
DIPP brings new FDI rules where no one supplier can sell more than 25% on an ecommerce platform.
Marketplaces who were doing a bulk of transactions under 1 company create 3-4-5 entities in association with people known to them.
These entities then become listed suppliers on a marketplace like Flipkart
Flipkart entity does flash sales to them after a customer orders product and then a shipment is sent to the customer.
All this flouting takes place and the regulators turn a blind eye
Flipkart sells this house of card to Walmart, somehow convinces CCI to approve
Now Walmart has inherited the violations of Flipkart so therefore all those foreign exchange and DIPP rule violations
must be looked at and appropriate fine/license cancellations should be enforced.
If this is not done the trader threat of Walmart using these Flipkart special sellers will become very real.
CCI outlines it thankfully but doesnt call for ED others to investigate these violations Why?? more
