Aquatic exercise: knee pain, diabetes and weight

I am 77 years old with diabetes for last 25 years. The walking got restricted due to knee pain. I have avoided knee replacement by homeopathic treatment. Due to less walking, HbA1C shot up to 7.7 and was a cause for worry. I checked youtube for aquatic knee exercises and started them at Siri Fort Sports Complex. The pool has a uniform depth of 5 feet and, therefore, one can walk in the pool. After 45 minutes of this regimen every morning for last three months, there were exemplary results. Knee pain is reduced. HbA1C is down to 6.4, from 7.7. Weight has reduced from 74.5 Kg to 71.5 Kg. Fortunately, the pool is heated in winters and I can perhaps continue. If I stop, I may get into the problem again! I strongly recommend (i) Homeopathic as an alternative to knee surgery and (ii) aquatic exercises to persons with knee pain, diabetes and need for weight control. more

my dear friend, nice to hear abt ur gd health condition..truly pleased with ur reports.....few things like to share..... -homeopathic treatment is not an alternative treatment for knee surgery.... every knee pain and restriction r different thing......only reports like arthroscopy or radiology can define the cause of pain....even simple arthritis too resemble like knee pain..... 2)its true aquatic exercises I'm too firm believer of it....we need to understand reason ....would let u know.... infact most drs doesn't advice to have swimming for better results of bones.. muscles.. ligaments....since water acts like a resistance to our body so u apply more force to it for movement.... which helps in contraction and relaxation of muscles where different enzyme reactions take place.. blood flow requires more to it....that's how ligaments becomes flexible..... now in sugar.... ppl need to understand that sugar needs to be converted into energy..... so by having aquatic exercises more energy is required... thus it comes down....sugar. I have explained it in lay man language.. but for sugar basic ppl does avoids exercise.... u need aerobic and anaerobic exercises both... no issue... just shared my views.... any else enquiry if required ....most welcome more
Dr. Sanddep are you saying swimming is good for flexibility of bones,

Dear Shri Dhirendra Krishna, Hearty Congratulations for your success so far; and thanks a lot for sharing. Best wishes for continued progress. Iyengar Yoga would certainly help in further progress. If interested, please let me know your city; and I could recommend some center/s for the same. It costs nothing to practice, except investment of time and efforts. Best wishes again more
Dear Shri Rajwade, I am not a Doctor and please do not seek my medical advise! At best I can share my experience. It is my firm belief that each individual is CEO ( Chief Executive Officer) of the systems in his body. A number of treatment options are available- some of them contradict each other. One has to select what works for his system. I also believe that ignoring the ailment is not an option. ( By the way, the photograph is an old one!) more
Dear Sri Dhirendra Krishna, we are surprised that you are 77 yrs. old from the looks of your photograph in your profile. Nevertheless both me & my wife either have or had knee joint problems. While I used to have knee locking (leg doesn't flex) , which luckily got cured through fish oil capsules (on Doctor's advice), my wife continues to suffer a lot of pain while walking even small distances. We have over a period of 2.5 yrs. consulted Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences, Retired Professor of Orthopaedics (highly reputed & even related to us) & a doctor of specialised orthopaedic hospital at Visakhapatnam. They have at different periods of time opined that she has only age related deterioration & Physiotherapy will do.All of them prescribe glucosamine & Ayurvedic oil/ Aceclofenac ointment for massage & Ultracet or Etodolan as standby pain relievers S.. Private Doctor has however sought feedback in 6 months ( a year has elapsed) so that failing to improve, she can be given some injection (for cartilage improvement). While we also gave her fish oil tabs in night & additional Ayurvedic treatment (application of watered powder/paste overnight & oil massage in the morning). She regularly attended Physiotherapy under qualified specialist at a medical college hospital. Regrettably there is no improvement & orthopaedician at the hospital advises knee cap replacement against injections, which are not likely to give relief according to him. In fact, the Physio trained at London has not advised us any "Aquatherapy". We are at present in USA & likely to return on 10/09. I am available at email:mvsmurty8@hotmail.com. We will be happy if you can advise us in this regard. more
dear sir,
with due respect to u......osteoarthritis has degree from mild..moderate.. severe.... no use of carrying such nsaid painkillers and physiotherapy.... it will just waste ur money and take heavy toll on ptn health.... in women and men knee joint pain causes different......so would suggest best option to go for knee replacement...... rather having new dr suggestion....
our body is genetically coded at birth... everything is predetermined....so we just need t be careful at certain ages to react at environmental condition....no issue... being dr with concern I suggested my views......
I would be happy if u had then only reports scan copy on email or WhatsApp for persona l study of medical case... if u r comfortable... thanks...

Aquatic exercises & Homeopathy as an alternative to knee replacement is a pleasant treatment.. The problem in our country is that Allopathy dominates ortho related issues, and allopaths do not consider homeopaths as doctors, hence, limited benefits. Government must build around this ortho related issue a department in homeopathy science for R&D immediately.. National bodies of Homeopathy may also be involved .. more
