ARE CHINESE PRODUCTS ABSOLUTELY INDISPENSABLE ?

The issue of Chinese products flooding the Indian market has been the hot topic in the circles for over 2 months. Some are imported officially and some are smuggled through the porous borders

The main attraction for the chines products are the price . For example an Indian CFL bulb costs Rs. 180/ with one year guarantee , Chinese costs Rs. 50 . All retail price. How they are able to offer ? Or is there any hidden agenda to stifle our Industries make Indians dependents totally.

Other than electrical goods , children’s toys , electronic items , play equipments and recently last Crackers and Kites that had swarmed the market last season.

The cracker Industry in India are mostly done as cottage industry where women , uneducated find occupation and earn some meager money as the labour ,is mostly unorganized. It will be a big blow for the workers employed if Chinese crackers are allowed this festival season.

Like wise another big blow would be for the Kite manufacturers ; kite flying is seasonal I think it starts now and goes on for some months. These are also poor and unorganized mostly under employed labourers.

No doubts their children's toys have a good appearance.
The price is the main attraction for the consumers.
There should be some attraction for the people importing them as it is liquidated quickly to get the buck also quickly.

Should we be so dependent on the Chinese products , that the imports are 5 times the value our exports to them. Our exports constitute mainly raw materials like iron ore valuable herbs. Not much finished goods. We exports finished goods only to countries which haven't developed their Industries like Auto rickshaws to Srilanka, and Rail Wagons to Africa. We shouldn't become like these countries to depend on China for finished goods.

Their imports are mainly finished products . So their citizens get a chance to use their skills , hone them up from time to time. Our labourers have to stagnate in developing themselves. Indian Government should have a rethinking on the quantity of imports and smuggled items from china .Some possible attempts to overcome :

* First and foremost people of India shouldn't buy the Crackers and the kites , this coming festival season.

* Remove taxes on crackers so that Indian produced crackers are used this festival season.

* Discourage license to import crackers and kite . Come down heavily on smugglers.

* Check the quality of the plastic and other materials used for the manufacture of children’s toys. If there is smallest doubt ban the import.

* Take it seriously to give skills training for the youth as we do see some posters .

* Encourage the Small scale entrepreneurs and cottage Industries in a Big way . Jai Hind. more

The unrestricted imports from China is a issue of concern. SJM have also raised this issue. To discourage these imports, we need i) national character over self interest by Traders, ii) necessary changes in import policy by Govt., iii) Awareness among customer regarding quality, iv) Assisting our Small Scale Industry in skill development, issue loans, reduce taxes, relaxed labour laws etc. more
The business people go for easy money by importing cheep chines products that blocks our skills utilization. In the long run we will become a dependent nation on Chinese products. more
I have tried LED bulb, Chinese make which costed me Rs. 100 with no warranty. It did work, only for 3 months. They are cheating Indians in the name of Cheap Price (of course with Cheap QUALITY). I came to know that some of the children Toys made of recycled Condoms and E waste. Of course we have been hearing the news of Plastic Rice & cabbage. These neighbours Pakistan and China is trying to win Proxy War by damaging the Health, through this dangerous products, Drugs, and Terrorism. They envoy India's growing economy. They want to quash the Youth Power. Youngsters are more vulnerable and attracted towards Chinese Product. There national integrity can be seen only during Cricket Match, mass death due to Terrorist attacks. But for the other days they ignore national interest. Some of the Boutique run by a community has collection of Pakistani attire, they buy these stuffs through their relatives in Pakistan. So,Let's Boycott Chinese & Pakistani Products more
I agree with Mr. Daniel. Fact is most of Chinese products imported in our country are sub-standard and do not meet our BIS standards. But they are still being sold here mainly due to their low prices and nothing else. It is a known fact that China gives lot of concessions in forms of low duties/taxes etc. for its export products. During this it is least bothered about their quality, health hazards and so on. Main reason being creation of employment for its people and generating income from exports for the country. To this end, prices of these products are kept specifically low. But the ultimate sufferer in this is out domestic industry. Some of our unscrupulous businessmen just for their personal gains are importing these products. High time the Government should act. While I am not against a blanket ban, but minimum should be stoppage of all imports, all those products which do not meet our standards, are health hazards or have a direct impact on our cottage industry should either not be allowed or heavy duties imposed on them. Besides, all those Indian businessmen who are importing such products should be heavily penalised and jailed for harming country's economy. Cases have been reported in media where some businessmen have imported goods either by tampering with invoices such as declaring lower prices or by bringing in more quantities than what is declared in the manifests. Connivance of local officials both at port an custom level cannot be excluded. Therefore, they should also be held responsible if found guilty. Punishment should not be merely fines, withholding of increments etc., but they should be sacked and arrested. more
An interesting observation posted by Mr Daniel, though I feel it delves a wee bit too much on the nitty-gritty by mentioning a few products individually. However, without going into details, allow me to comment as follows: 1. So long as indigenous products cannot compete on price, quality and punctual delivery with those of foreign manufacture, it is useless to crib about imports being more than exports. Blocking imports will help only in situations where local production is available. 2. This situation sends an open invitation/challenge to local producers to reform their production systems and especially the quality of their products (packing included). Buyers will always consider these three factors. With the Indian government having decided to raise excise duties on foreign goods gives a sizeable advantage to local manufacturers. They should hit the iron while hot. 3. Over 20 years ago, companies from the Western world went in scores to China to get their products manufactured there because China offered them cheaper prices, punctuality of delivery and accepted quality control specified by the western companies. India would have to match up to those specifications in order to be considered/competitive. more
A good matter raised by Mr Daniel. We the customers should refuse to buy Chinese goods though cheaper. If a majority of Indians do that, automatically the importers will stop importing from China. I, for one, do not buy Chinese goods. more
We Indians are only importing Chinese goods, and we Indians are only distributing/retailing it to the public .. and we Indians are purchasing it. It is true that we can't altogether obviate goods of Chinese origin - e.g. a good no of components required to assemble a Personal Computer is likely to be of Chinese origin. But, what about puja idols, puja thalis , Holi clours. etc! Only way to extract the teeth of the dragon is not to fight militarily but by commercially.
LET US REJECT CHINESE MADE GOODS WHENEVER AND WHEREVER FEASIBLE. more
