ARE EDIBLE VEGETABLE OILS A SAFE SUBSTITUTE FOR MILK IN THE ICE CREAMS ?

This question came to my mind as I happened to read the printed matter in very small print . The contents are Water , Sugar , palm oil, Milk solids, Liquid Glucose , Vegetable proteins, Emulsifier , Stabilizers . There are other Brands which use Milk in place of Palm oil.
Palm oil a price FRIENDLY SUBSTITUTE for other cooking oils . PALM OIL HAS A HIGH SATURATED FAT CONTENT, WHICH CAN BE HARMFUL TO CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH. suggests that consuming oil that has been repeatedly reheated may cause plaque deposits in the arteries due to a decrease in the oil's antioxidant activity.

IS IT SAFE AND HARMLESS FOR THE REGULAR ICE CREAM EATERS TO CONSUME WITHOUT FEAR OF OBESITY IN THE LONG RUN ?. -- Jai Hind more

Vegetable oil is not recommended in food items. Awareness to be spread among the public, as many, consumes vegetable oil based food products and lands themselves with serious health issues. Palm oil is another cholesterol and triglyceride forming one. Few years ago our Indian doctors recommending consumption of Palm oil and not to consume coconut oil, when government of India signed lacks of tons of palm oil with an east Asian country . Thus, each and every one were running to procure palm oil, but over the years this oil made almost 70% of citizen as cardiac patients. Ultimately benefited to big specialty hospitals to LOOT, LOOT, LOOT. Now many hospitals are flourishing at the cost of innocent patients, by simply instigated to undergo major surgery. Public awareness is necessary. Now coconut oil is recommended for various abdominal cancer diseases. more
Eat food made at home from raw materials. Learn basic nutrition facts. Simple food made at home is likely to be cheaper, more nutritious and healthier for you than market bought prepared food. You will also know what you are eating. more
One should avoid eating saturated oils. In general avoid eating prepared food which have a long list of ingredients. With care, thought and discipline one may be able to afford “real food” on a middle class budget. more
JD, It is better to eat Veg Oil based desert, than to eat non-veg icecream. Milk is non veg. People have bad habit of appreciating "pure ghee" (nonveg) over Dalda ghee which is a veg product, just because it is cheap. more

Thanks Mr. Kaishikk for the clarification . Had I attached a third side of the carton this controversy wouldn’t have arisen . As the picture clearly shows a scoop of Ice cream, what I wanted to buy . Then I remember some one saying that , Amul and Mother Dairy use only dairy fat where as the some others use Palm oil .That kindled my interest to check the contents printed and was produced . ICE-CREAM MAKERS SUCH AS AMUL AND MOTHER SAY THAT FROZEN DESSERT MAKERS HAVE BEEN MISLEADING CONSUMERS BY PASSING THEM ON AS ICE CREAM. ... "CONSUMERS ARE FOOLED INTO BUYING FROZEN DESSERTS . – Though I got ice cream with the name Desert . Frozen desserts, which look and taste like ice cream but are made out of vegetable fat, have silently grabbed a 40% share in India's 1,800-crore organized ice-cream market without most consumers realizing they are not ice cream. Led by Hindustan Unilever's Kwality Walls, Vadilal, Lazza Ice Creams and Cream Bell, frozen desserts- served in identical cups, cones and sticks as ice cream-have found a strong foothold in the country in less than two decades since Kwality Walls introduced them. But food authority officials and original ice-cream makers such as Amul and Mother Dairy feel these companies are misleading consumers by masquerading frozen dessert as ice cream. While real ice cream is made with milk fat, frozen dessert is made with vegetable fat, which is almost 80% cheaper. "THE CLANDESTINE MANNER IN WHICH THE LABELING (OF FROZEN DESSERTS) IS DONE AND THE WAY THEY ARE MARKETED IN TELEVISION COMMERCIALS ARE A MATTER OF CONCERN," SAYS H G KOSHIYA, COMMISSIONER OF GUJARAT FOOD AND DRUG CONTROL ADMINISTRATION . So next time if I want to buy Ice cream , I will buy the one that contains Dairy Milk and not palm oil. Yes Mr. Kaushikk , it is okay to consume palm oil made food stuff once in a way as we used to , hardly even once a week . Now every Thali meals in Chennai , even the ones selling for Rs. 100 / Thali includes a small cup of ice Cream [Not sure if it is labeled Ice cream or Desert ] My concern wasn’t about us oldies .But the so many working one who have to eat out their meals. But THE SCHOOL KIDS, WHO CONSUME MORE OFTEN NEED THIS WARNING ABOUT THE CONTENT OF PALM OIL. The Caption on the carton is sure to bring out another controversy on the Modern Advertising techniques. more
