Are finger print required for KYC with mobile wallets?
A recent KYC verification session with a mobile wallet has left me wondering - to what extent the mobile wallet can go to collect your personal information.
Of the few option listed on the mobile wallet as required KYC document , I submitted a government issued ID card. I was informed someone will visit the premise to verify physically the ID card and seek an appointment and which I promptly gave.
The executive turned up one day after the appointed day and time and then followed the usual process of sending a code on mobile and asking for the same (this could have been done on phone). He then proceeded to ask for the FINGER PRINTS. He was carrying a finger scanner.
It left me stumped - I denied. But it has left me wondering are these organization authorized to collect finger prints? more

One of the points of legality also. Mobile service providers can't force people to provide their biometrics as it is not mandatory to do so as on date.. more

Why should there be a hesitation to share the finger prints? This is a legitimate method to identify economic offenders, whose number is rising with the increase in digital money transactions. I tend to agree with the views expressed by Darshan Sharma. more

is the bonafied ID card (like PAN card, passport) not sufficient enough.
Given the data security conerns floating globally - finger print is a very personal information and only organization having government sanction should be authorized to collect more

My all family members submitted Aadhar+PAN to banks, mobile providers & PO. I don't see any harm in this. Moreover, they are tools against criminals & economic offenders. more

Will come the day when there is a catastrophic leak of information and then you'll be left wondering why you shared all this information in the first place. Fingerprinting isn't the be-all and end-all that roots out illegal financial transactions. The clever and the smart will always find methods to overcome as they did in the wake of demonetisation which was touted to be the hammer that would flatten the unseemly lump of corruption and cash hoarding (did it?). It is sad that the ability to think for oneself is quickly vanishing and that anything declared by the government is taken as gospel truth. I've yet to see an altruistic government that acted solely in the interests of the citizenry and never their own. A free and successful democracy consists of a majority of citizens who can tell that difference. Sadly, India doesn't count among such nations. more

i dont see any harm. Basically most of the mobile wallets are not connecting banks. This system is to track each and every transaction you do . Govt agencies wants to track the financial movement to micro level. Likewise they track the mobile communications and data when your aadhar is linked to your mobile numbers. more
