ARE SO MANY DISTRICTS NEEDED IN TAMIL NADU ?

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is announcing new districts left , right and centre. One is not sure as to whether any systematic and scientific study has been carried out to assess whether so many districts are necessary on the basis of cost benefit analysis.

If such study has been carried out, it has not been shared with the people. Media is also not asking for such details.
In the present times, when communication facilities have improved so much and digital transactions are expanding, probably, there is only case for lesser number of districts rather than more.

Creation of more districts obviously mean more administrative expenditures, more district collectors and other staff and variety of other expenses. Tamil Nadu government’s financés are extremely weak and there is need to reduce government expenses in various possible ways.

However, freebies are being thrown to the people and expenses are mounting. One wonders whether Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and other ministers and bureaucrats have any concern about the present dismal state of huge deficit economy.

Everyone seems to be looking at the developments helplessly and with a sense of resignation.

Having more districts is not an issue but splitting the community or cast or religion wise is not to be encouraged. So require some study for only "ONLY" governance to be made before splitting. And that too with a committee with center vs state "governing officials" "non vested interest political"( like ex supreme court or High court judges , CBI officials etc.. like) to be formed and under the control of Supreme court to be done. more
More districts does not necessarily translate to better administration. Is any of our districts which are small managed effetively? The answer is an emphatic No. More districts means more politicians, more babus, more corruption, more wastage of public money (changes to exisiting documents, boards), but no solutions for the common man. I may seem pessimistic, but .... more
Officers want more posts to get quick promotions. This helps them. more
More districts means easy reach out of the administration and effective interaction between the people and the government as we generally believe.Bot cost analysis is the must and it is cooly ignored. more
Even the number of states should have been reduced . Instead of so many language oriented states division, only 8 regional states(zones) viz.North, South,East,West &North East,North West,South East, South West are adequate. Each zone headed by one elected Dy.Prime Minister under the leadership of Central Prime Minister would have avoided all the present political, rather language oriented problems. Government may think it over. more
