ASK FORCE TO TACKLE COVID IN TAMIL NADU

With COVID crisis in Tamil Nadu causing huge concern, it is good that Tamil Nadu government has set up a task force to deal with the COVID issue.

It appears that no public statement has been made as to what would be the role and responsibility of this task force , since the number of secretaries and ministers are already dealing with the issue. Further, government has constituted a consultative committee of the opposition parties also.

In any case, the move to constitute a task force should be welcome, as it can be an additional think tank. Only required caution is that this task force should not interfere in the work of the existing ministers and secretaries.

One mistake that DMK government did after assuming office is that it transferred the Chennai Corporation Commissioner, Chief Secretary and so many IAS and police officers, who have been dealing with the COVID issue earlier with reasonable success.

Without standing on prestige, the Tamil Nadu government should include these officers , who were earlier tackling the COVID issue , in the task force. Their suggestions based on their experience could be of great help in devising strategies.
