Aspartame and Silver on Sweeets
This chemical aspartame is used in most sugar free products. Can anyone tell me if it is cancerous?
Also the silver foil used on Indians sweets, is that cancerous?
Concerned that kids tend to consume some of these sugar free products as well as sweets. more

Hello, I have got the following information from my friend Mr. Debanjan Ray... Hope this is useful. regards, Maheshappa ---- Aspartame is not carcinogenic. However, Aspartame was found to have more ill effect on health than the latest drug Sucralose. Both Aspartame and Sucralose has to be consumed at a rate less than the maximum prescribed limit i.e. 40 mg/kg of body weight for aspartame, 9 mg/d/kg of body weight for Sucralose. The figures however varies from country to country, depending on various regulatory authorities. --- more

Americal Cancer Society as well as National Cancer Institute have found no carcinogenic effect for aspartate, though of the two large studies conducted, one covering 50000 people found it not causing cancer whereas another covering 12500 people carcinogenic effects in a few for leukemias and brain tumours. At any rate the Allowable maximum of 40 mgm to 50 mgm per kg body weight, is not harmful. more

Mr Karjatwala's revelation that aluminium is used instead of silver is quite an eye opener. The government must crack down on such unscrupulous manufacturers of sweets and arrest then for food adulteration. Thanks for the information. more

Dont know what aspartame is, but aluminium foil is used in lieu of silver on sweets. so that should be avoided completely. more
