Audit of Bridges

Friends, we in Mumbai circles are talking about action after the recent foot over bridge collapse including removal of BMC commissioner.

Seems like its leading to actions. BMC has just ordered an audit of all bridges.

I suggest each member here share this letter with their municipal commissioner or DM and demand that same be done in their district or city.

Unless and until we stand up, these accidents will continue to happen. more

I entirely agree with Shri Chandrashekhar Shetye. Accountability and deterrent punishment is essential to correct our mind set. Commissioner BMC is only removed from his position while he should be in jail for not less than 5 years undergoing R.I. There is no point in undertaking inquiry and punishing supervisor or engineer only - the punishment should be to entire line of supervision up to Chief Engineer and the executing contractor /firm with its directors in individual capacity should be black listed for 10 years. It may sound harsh, but for such a chronic and advanced disease such strong medication is necessary and it may be reviewed after 15 years of strict application. RYK. more
Structural Audit periodically is a must. It should be laid down as SOP Standard operating procedure. To be checked by head of department. more
