Auditing Local Food Safety Labs

I'd like to raise the issue of capability of food safety labs in the country. We all know how state govt labs run. Many times they have outdated equipment, waiting to be replaced for years.

Is there an audit thats conducted by fssai officals. Is there any move to bring these labs under fssai instead of state govts.

If labs are of same standard and doing good work, i feel public trust in govt in matters of food will increase. more

Its better not to speak about the Food Safety Labs being owned & managed by the state governments, which do not appear to be in their lists of priorities. The governments which have utterly failed even to properly manage the Labs and the equipment in their various hospitals and medical colleges, which are imported by spending billions of rupees of public money and essential for a modern lab and OT, could not be expected to pay attention towards issues like food safety. In fact once a government is formed, its entire attention and strength is being directed towards creation of grounds for another term and the process goes on pushing the priorities backwards. All the political parties of the land follow the same practice showing least regards towards the welfare of the citizens and development of the country. more
Now a days Laboratories have to accreditated by NABL to assess the quality of product. It's a stringent process. I don't know why such facilities center are not upgraded. Concerned ministry is providing grant to upgade facilities but it has to be NABL accreditated. it's not an easy task to assess the quality of products through out the country by Govt. laboratory in absence of adequate facility and professionals & experts. Big manufacturers are having their own CFC and International CFC(Common Facility Center) are also evaluating the quality if any one approaches, however, one has to pay the service charge. In general except the branded product manufacturers , no one is much interested, Govt. can't compel other than creating awareness. If any one is interested to know more, you may contact. Thanks. retd. Professional & technocrat. more
Our Governing system invariably allows the ruling political party to interfere in every Govt activities. We all know that how many Govt vacancies are lying vacant and that the public suffer. Even the Govt delays the appointment of judges while millions of court cases are piling up in various courts in India. Thus, unless there is a will it will be difficult to bring in positive changes in the current ruling system. Thanks more
