auto meters in mumbai
Hi all. I would like to share my experience in mumbai. I was riding an auto in mumbai. While the digital meter is on, i noticed the time appearing in the auto meter. It was showing 1 hour ahead. Actual time was 8.00 p.m and it was showing 9.00 p.m. How it matters?
There is a night charge (higher than regular fare) in mumbai autos which starts at 12.00 mid night and ends at 5.00 a.m. This is a higher meter rate programmed in the auto meter. Fare in the meter will automatically show higher if the auto ride time is between 12.00 midnight and 5.00 a.m.
In this particular auto, when the passenger travels between 11.00 p.m to 12.00 midnight he will shell out night fare as the time appearing in the auto mete is 1 hour ahead. In this one hour tiem. auto driver will get extra amount than regular fare.
Whose mistake it is? Is it purpose full rigging of auto meter or any mistake of digital meter manufacture? more

Usually I found that auto drivers in Mumbai do not dare to cheat. Unlike Chennai and Coimbatore they rarely refuse to ply for the customer and immediately flag the meter. this is very common practice mostly in all major cities in India & this can be controlled if the driver wants to be honest. There is not other way to control. more

Usually such short cut cheating methods are employed by the upcountry drivers operating in Mumbai. more
