Avoid Ola Electric Scooters - standards needed

Someone we know here in Odisha had a highly dangerous experience with the Ola scooter. When at home they were leaving for office and moved the throttle it went in Reverse mode instead at a speed of 102kmph. Unfortunately They couldn't record it as the phone fell from their hand.

Would strongly urge LC to escalate this to Govt and Standards making body for electric scooters. Who gave these people the approval without rigorous testing. What about other brands.

We dont want people getting hurt. Imagine someone on the highway or roads. They could be crushed by a car coming from behind. more

Electric Vehicles are an option, not the only option. 2 wheeler EVs are running well in other countries because the batteries are replaceable and there are public charging ports. Just check out on youtube. There are several videos of the same. One pays through an app or a QR code for the replacement battery and life goes on. But not in India. Ola scooters are sealed engines. The battery cannot be replaced. This is a very important fact that nobody wants to talk about. They are tested, but the testing standards are not revealed to anyone. Try using a PLI for an RTI and see what response you get. Zilch! One should not get carried away by a fad. Just because one has money it need not be wasted on something that is untested and at least under the current scenario - unreliable. Anything that runs on pure electronics can be hacked. And if that happens every electric scooter that uses a lithium battery can become a potential weapon. Lets think things through before buying a new "toy" and junking it once the interest wanes. more
Problem of sub-standard quality, poor testing and insipid quality control plagues Indian enterprises. Its always profiteering that supercedes. So adulterate Haldi, Chilli, Dhania powder with some fillers. Coffee mixed with chicory is an official blend. Its not surprising that OLA makes flimsy electric scooters where basic checks on critical parts is not carried out. Is it a way to reduce the population of the country? Not very imaginative, it must be said. However, the government must rise to the occasion and implement standards and quality benchmarks in such products. more
Ask him to complain to Ola and send a copy to the concerned authority. It could be a systemic problem or just an isolated one. Negligence should be looked into as well. With soaring petroleum bills, there is no alternative at present except to go for electric vehicles. more
Surprisingly these people pay very high cost on Chinese Brand whereas our own Bhola made vehicles could turn out to be more economical in long run as also safe. more
