Bad experience with a dietician

I recently went to one Dr parul Patni for weight
guidance and to reduce my weight but had a very less than average experience. I had read in some articles that she was very good but unfortunately the experience was shoddy. On a cold November evening i went to Faridabad to consult her amidst strong fog on the way. With difficulty i found the clinic, paid her 2500 per month charge, and in return answered some questions. She handed me a chart mentioning which `foods to eat, what to avoid. After that she asked me to call a week later. Once out of her office and after paying the fees it was as if i was on my own. I sent her SMS telling my weight and got a curt reply which said only 'OK'. After a week i called back again and this time she asked me to change my food, and asked me to write the items. There was no mails, no regular phone calls, no checking up despite the tall promises made in the website. After the month was over, i got a call from her office asking why i had not visited the clinic. I asked what for, i get the info online, the caller understood, and did not come back asking for money.

This is the sad story of how promises made by dieticians, health experts and even other service providers remain only on paper. Once the payment has been made nothing matters, delivery of products, and service is forgotten. The learning however is avoid Dr Parul Patni, and if you want service from such an expert check the antecedents. more

Very informative suggestions. The real problem is most of us (problem struck) want quick solutions to our problems acquired over many years spent with utmost disregard for discipline and basic health rules etc. Now in deep trouble, struck up to the neck, we want quick solutions overnight or in a few days. If I suggest to my child to get up early in the morning and go for some exercise or to spend some time on yoga, I am considered old fashioned ! If I tell somebody to eat normal vegetarian food, avoid non-vegetarian or not to smoke or drink, "ab nahi enjoy karenge to kab? budhe honepe? " is the look thrown at me! Every one wants quick solutions by throwing away money. Money can buy you bad habits but good habits and a disciplined life has to be practiced! And this yields good results (not readable ) over a long period of practice and consistency. I appreciate Subba Rao's efforts to contribute to society and wish him all the best. Also Chakresh Jains suggestions are worth following to reap best benefits and pass on to others. Thanks to both of you. more
Abhishek Thanks for posting this. It's really an eye opener. However, as other seniors said make informed choices. I suggest you read few books on diet, know your body and then you decide yourself what actions to be taken. Having said that, if you still need some guidance on diet, check desi dieter website where you can take subscription and the dietitian stay in contact with you via phone, email and watsapp and resolves your every query and gives you an option if you find it difficult to follow something suggested by her. Exercise is non-negotiable thing if one is aiming for healthy weight, body and mind. more
Yes Subba Rao, That is why I keep telling people to have interest in every thing, study articles, learn yourself, the more you read and discuss and practice the more smarter, intelligenter, knowledgeable you will be. JUST DO IT YOURSELF. I once learnt from a chinese master 50 different exercises and till today I do them myself and tell my contacts, friends, children to let them benefit all. Many posts in all our circle are so useful and worth emulating only one needs patience and continuous reading over and over again. You will be surprised I copy many posts on to my desktop and make folders of each topic and keep adding to them, and then rrad them again and again in leausre time more
This indeed is a bad experience like Mr. Gupta's comment, it is common and more "moroning" for all us Indians (I am no exception), we all lying low complaining and nobody is willing to take the harsh and most difficult step of suing through the multi-level channels available. Unfortunately, we the "educated" are aware of huge amount of wastage of time and money and the result is known to all. Hence negligence. QUIET CONTRARILY - I would narrate my experiences. I started teaching Yoga in my society. Never was willing to charge any fees. Then came several demands (1) your timings don't suit us (2) Teach us in the evening (3) how many students do you have .. I was interviewed thoroughly. After all the interview "what do you charge". I said it is free - response thanks sir - we want a professional - which means teaching free is not being professional. Next I dared and started "asking for fees". Response - bargaining as if it was a vegetable market - (1) how many classes (2) how far are you (3) We want in closed rooms/ac rooms and so on and on. Where they found Rs. 2000 to be expensive for 1hr, they would pay Rs. 18000 to 30000 going to a gim and buying their diet, spending more money to reach there - JUST BECAUSE IT WAS GIM and mine was free in the open air - which is what YOGA is supposed to be done from!!! All this story sharing is only to know the various mentalities and characters present! Thanks for reading. more
Such stories are common in India with every service provider - it could be buying a property, or doctor or hospital , once you pay, their job is over and there is no follow up, no further service. more
