Ban on Plastic bags, straws, cutlery in Maharashtra

We are pleased to share with you that Maharashtra effective March 18 has banned plastic bags, straws and cutlery. Below are some of the key inputs from you on the subject of eliminating use of poly packaging in India.

Kindly review and please share any other specific inputs you have by responding to this post. Also share the same with your state and local leaders and municipal administration so they can consider the implementation of the same.

Eliminating use of poly packaging:

1. Jute bags should be made mandatory in malls and supermarkets
2. Use of plastic packaging should be banned
3. Paper packaging should be promoted
4. Government should take the lead to bring laws for banning plastic bags from public use
5. Shops should be allowed to charge Rs. 5 to 10 for the bag they are giving (like in big bazar & mother dairy) which can be reimbursed on returning. This will encourage people to carry bags from their home from the next time
6. Teams should be made to make surprise checks in shops/factories to prevent the usage of plastic packaging
7. People caught using poly packaging should be steeply fined
8. The number of units manufacturing poly packaging and bags should be curtailed
9. The health hazards which plastics pose need to highlighted through mass media
10. A serious thought should be given to alternates that can be used in place of plastics. These alternates should be made available easily at a wide scale & their use should be encouraged. more

* more
Plastic ban should start from HOME. We go empty handed and demand cover for a pound of bread already wrapped in plastic cover. We got to carry a cloth bag while shopping. I have seen customers demanding shopkeeper to provide plastic bag. As long as such demands exist, we have plastic bag manufacturers thriving in supplying such bags. more

The talk of Ban on Plastic goin on since ages but net result if Zero. Some states had taken some steps but were not successful. We are fully aware of Water bottles used are so harmful....... Its having plastisizers and micro plastics which are very dangerous and fateful. So many deaths have been reported on this account. When water stored in the bottles heat up on storage in cars parked or kept in hot places, plastisizers in these are sufficient to cause the death. But what is the outcome of ban on this ......... Who should or would lead in this and take up the responsibility.......... Hot tea is served in small, cheap glasses made from recycled plastic is sufficient to make a person bed ridden ... or leave the Life. Hundreds of eatables, packaged foods come in plastic bags nicely decorated like, Lays, Bangos .... you name any .... and these are branded..... Nobody can do anything as everyone is mook spectator, not having any will or having ill motos..... that we see deaths and deteriorated health in front of us.... still we shield the murderers. Why.... why....... Why everyone is so helpless....... or they are helpful to the murderers ??? Have a look at every Mall, every shop you will find full of stuff packed in plastics ..... Smaal pouches of tobaco, to ........chutneys and what else you name and found in plastics. What NGO's are doing ... what state/center Governments are doing.... What social activists are doing???? It is ridicules to talk on the subject....... If continue it will be full of several pages but what is the use??? Is anything going to happen...???? Is there going to be any result....???? Kitabo me chapate he chahat ke kisse... Haqiqat ki duniya me chahat nahi he.... A,K,nagpal more
Will have to start with our self a then advice some one more
If there is a way to ban the plactic packaging mindlessly used by all online retailers, that will be a great move. Just look at the amount waste they generate in terms of the bubble wraps, plastic sticky tapes, the plastic covers that enclose the invoices and bills, the amount of card borad material used for packaging! It is mind blowing! We need to bring some discipline there as well which is much easier since there are only 5-10 major players. more
It was a good move but should have been done much before. Why cant we stop manufacturing of poly pack in whole of India? We Indian do not understand the meaning of self discipline and we understand only one language which is forceful execution. more
