What can be done to be better prepared for Earthquakes

1. An early warning system should be developed
2. Stronger common places could be built which could be used for people to take shelter in case of an earthquake
3. Earthquake alarms should be installed in colonies and in high rises to warn the residents
4. The designs of the new buildings should be passed only if they are on an earthquake resistant design
5. Regular mock drills should be done in densely populated areas to train people in quick evacuation
6. Every city must have trained Emergency Response Teams to provide quick turnaround service
7. The local circles concept of Emergency Readiness community in every district is a must
8. Lessons on Disaster management should be added to the school curriculum
9. Inferior quality construction should be checked and banned
10. India should tie up with countries like Japan and understand their processes of handling an earthquake
11. The fire stations should be converted to Safety and Rescue Centre at every 200kms and locals should be trained here to handle earthquakes
12. More focus on Disaster Management at District levels is needed along with interfacing with RWAs, NGOs, Hospitals
13. Every Govt or Private hospital must have a fully functional Disaster/Emergency ward at all times to continue as an authorized hospital more

Really a comprehensive list of Points to conquer a quake like situation. I believe India is today required to go for this. Our elected representatives must take initiatives to get it done comprehensively and discharge their duties. more

Train all school and college students in NCC, Civil Defense, NSS, First Aid, etc. For girls self defense. Make one year of each compulsory for all high schools and colleges. Just teaching whole bunch of text book is not education, that will only produce a weak India. It is not too late to change. Jai Hind!
