Beware of train food apps says IRCTC

IRCTC menu On Rail app: Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is all set to launch 'Menu On Rail' app that will help its customers to order the food of their choice. IRCTC also sent out a clear warning against turning to some unauthorised companies for food. "IRCTC is the only authorised agency to take and deliver orders through e-catering in trains. Beware of unauthorized entities like: Travelkhana, Railyatri, Omitra, Yatrachef. Make sure to order food through Food on Track mobile app," IRCTC sources were quoted as saying by NDTV.

The food on offer by IRCTC will vary according to the trains that the passenger is travelling on. The category of trains through which the 'Menu on Rail' app will be available are Mail, Express, Humsafar trains in first category, Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express and Duronto Express trains in second category, Gatimaan Express train in third category, and Tejas Express train in the fourth category, according to IRCTC. Just check IRCTC official website irctc.co.in for latest updates on the service.

According to the e-catering website of IRCTC, passengers can book their preferred meal also through e-catering.irctc.co.in. Passengers can even book food through a call on 1323. They can also book food through mobile app, 'Food on Track', that can be downloaded on any Android/IOS phones. By typing MEAL and sending to 139, passengers can book food through SMS. Passengers having valid reservation ticket can book their tickets through IRCTC website. Passengers need to visit e-catering.irctc.co.in and enter the PNR number to book their meals.

On the homepage of e-catering.irctc.co.in, enter the PNR number. A list of stations shall appear in the drop-down menu, said IRCTC. If the search is made by train name or station name, the system will seek your PNR for verification purposes before confirming the booking.
The vendor menu will appear along with the prices on selecting the station name. After booking the meal the passenger also needs to choose the mode of payment. Payments can be made by cash on delivery and prepaid online payment can also be made. more

Many thanks for the information. On Tue, Feb 5, 2019 at 10:41 PM Manju Patel wrote: > more
We should feel happy that IRCTC is providing Tea / Tiffin/ Lunch / Dinner as per your choice at any time near your seat. We should not discourage IRCTC for the yeoman job it is doing. The Vendors or the Comesum etc. will not be giving you this service except at important stations. I agree that the preparation of food may not be hygienic in IRCTC, but no one can also guarantee that the preparation by vendors or the Comesum are also hygienic. Let us motivate IRCTC to improve their quality, but do not discourage them. more
I have ordered food from Railyatri in past and I will have to say that food was quite tasty and worth of the money. Hence I believe there is no issue wit some other genuine app for ordering food including IRCTC authorized app. more
TO EAT IRCTC FOOD MEANS A "ONE WAY TICKET TO DIARRHEA". IRCTC IS SCARING AWAY FOOD VENDORS FROM DIRECTLY DELIVERING FOOD TO RAIL PASSENGERS THRU SUCH PROPAGANDA. IN SOUTHERN RAILWAY LINES, TRAINS STARTING FROM CHENNAI GET HOT BIRIYANI FROM THE FAMOUS "THALAPAKATTI BIRIYANI FRANCHISE" ON ORDER THRU THEIR APPS. THE FOOD IS REPORTED TO BE VERY SATISFACTORY AND TASTY.DO NOT GET MISLED BY IRCTC PROPAGANDA. more

The Comesum food packet at Gwalior railway station ₹70 - rancid, stale hard and cold idlis, watery, bland and infected coconut chutney and sambar. See quantity of polluting plastic. Seller takes payment and vanishes before I open packet. Thrown in garbage, as eating it is sure to make one sick!! Food paid, and germs for free! more
