BIS as usual failing to catch up with industry

BIS seems so far behind in making standards. Products come and start selling in millions and BIS as an organisation still doesnt have a standard. Same happen with air purifiers and filters. Till date no standard.

Now same happening with UV sanitisation machines. Making random claims like attached and mislaeading consumers. more

Kindly recall that even 10/15 years back, BIS used to conduct surprise inspection at retailers'/whole-sellers' premises/godowns and to check for non-BIS products/fake BIS marked products, and to confiscate the discrepant stocks. What has made them passive in such activities? more
Now done electronically . more
This is true. BIS lags far behind the industry & even market surveillance.  Even the products with mandatory license are not being monitored. Actual BIS product producers are suffering due to scrupulous manufacturers. Licensees suffer on account of non ISI marked products in the market. Proper implementation is essential. Making LAWS & RULES, making licenses compulsory but not enforcing implementation puts the genuine licensees , products & customers at a disadvantage. BIS carries out various activities like that of standards formulation, product certification, hallmarking, laboratory services, training services, etc. However, the primary and most recognized objective of BIS is to formulate and prescribe the standards for products for their certification. more
Further, there are items for which BIS certification is obligatory. Kindly Ref: https://bis.gov.in/index.php/product-certification/products-under-compulsory-certification/ Question of superiority/inferiority, therefore, is irrelevant. more
Focal theme of the discussion is that products, without governing BIS certification, has flooded the Indian Market. Thus, the consumer has got no0 yardstick or a certifying authority, on which can repose his/her faith on quality. more
