BIS needs clear direction
A friend forwarded this attached graphic on how BIS has a standard for jaggery.
I dont think BIS gets it. Unless u are making mandatory standards no point in your staff copying standards from abroad and issuing another voluntary standard.
Not even 0.05 percent jaggery that sells in India follows your standard so stop having these voluntary standards just so your staff can draw a salary.
Work on real issues that are mandatory like air water, customer service, healthcare. more

This is also one of the so called real issues since it is directly involved with health of common man and standard for its manufacturing, packing and marketing must be stipulated and compliance thereof kept under surveillance. Maintenance standard of eatables comes under health care. more

The geographical conditions varies and so the cultivation, food etc. It's not proper to simply follow what the other countries prescribe more

The jaggery is produced, packed and sold in most unhygienic conditions. There is no authority to regulate this trade. The sugar price is around Rs.37/- pkg. where gur is being sold at Rs.70/- to 80/-. Some people are mixing sugar with sugarcane juice to make gur/jaggery. Either the Health/Food regulators are not working or political pressure is there. more

this is not only in jaggery right from health labs ,diabetic , BP, Pulse Medical lab test normal levels etc , insurance premium etc are also copy paste and get monthly salary as scientist. now US revised Diabetic level to 250 for eating bread and fast foods. in India for eating rice and wheat wit Indian organic manure also the same levels as in US will be followed now for India also they will make it 250 instead of 100 for sugar diabetic level. you eat "sugar cane" or "mango fruit" or "seetha fruit" or "supporta fruit " sugar level has to be within limit as per Doctors ???? how comedy it is to have US and Europe level of scale. also even for fit ness US and European standard height weight ratio is used to deiced sports athletic or police selection or Olympics to disqualify an Individual more

The BIS and agricultural products, the agricultural products like jaggery were produced normally by lower education persons and also products were different for on one reason to other reasons and also un-organised sector. more
