BIS on standards
Kudos to Ministry of Commerce for increasing standards from 500 to 5000 for imported goods but instead everything specially edible items imported should be covered by BIS. Edible items should mention date of fruits & vegetables removed from plants/trees otherbles should mention date of manufacture & date of expiry. more

Very good idea. Since there is a food ministry, specifications for anything edible like pesticides residue, wax, fungus and preservatives limits should be published on par with European standards. The values should be printed on the label for customs verification. Anything without such labels should be returned by the same carrier. No scope to fine toxic food. Some sample testing by food administration may be done to ban import of that item from that country. more

Fruits and vegetables are NOT manufactured items. BIS does not deal with non-manufactured items. FSSAI is the regulator for food items. Please prepare a draft standard and submit it to the regulator for consideration. Then you gather support on the social media. more
