Asking bis officials to please wake up and see how people are selling spurious hand sanitisers in the market.

B.I.S. is under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India. And not a Voluntary body . They are paid by central Government . more

This is incorrect. BIS is not funded by govt - it earns for itself. And its a voluntary standards and certification body. If any standard or certification is to be made mandatory by law, its govt which needs to do it not BIS. more

Pl understand that BIS is a voluntary standards body - it does not enforce them. If these are to be enforced compulsorily, these have to be notified by govt like standards for cement, bottled water have been notified. BIS does not have power to notify. more

It is not now that spurious products are being sold .It has been been going on since so many years and is a parallel economy and bis is mum on this and knowingly pretend that they do not know . There is no mechanism to report it to them Actually their inspectors should be doing periodic checking /surprise checks on the same in every city/town which is not happening. Consumer onlyhas to tell them and then also they do not wake up.Which gives an impression that they are aware of the same but are in hand in glove with the people who are doing these malpractices more
