BJP STANDS TALL IN KARNATAKA
Therefore, , when both Congress JDS combine and BJP staked claims to form the government, the governor thought that the party with largest number of MLAs in the assembly should be asked to form the government and prove it’s claim of majority support.
This approach of governor was supported by several eminent jurists including Mr. Soli Sorabji, former Attorney General and Mr. T.N.Vallinayagam, retired Karnataka High Court Judge.
BJP, perhaps, expected that number of elected MLAs in the Congress party and JDS would be unhappy about the post poll alliance of the two parties, as they bitterly fought each other and they would vote for BJP.
This has not happened. Then, BJP Chief Minister gracefully submitted his resignation and upheld the principles of democracy and BJP’s commitment to the democratic approach.
Several allegations of Congress JDS combine that BJP was poaching and offering bribes to their MLAs was nothing beyond allegations, as there was no proof. These days, fake videos and audios can be shown by manipulating very easily , making it look like true incidents. Such fake scenes are repeatedly seen these days in the whatsapp messages.
When the BJP CM resigned, he effectively drove the message deep in the mind of everyone that BJP is the single largest party in the assembly after the recent elections and the alliance between Congress and JDS is nothing but opportunistic alliance with the desire to grab power.
When the BJP Chief Minister gracefully submitted his resignation accepting that BJP does not enjoy the majority support, he has thrown the ball in the court of the Congress JDS combine to prove their credibility and trustworthiness.
It remains to be seen how Karnataka politics will shape in the coming months. But, ultimately, it is very clear now that BJP has kept it’s image intact and will remain as a challenging opposition for the Congress JDS combine.
As opposition party, BJP should conduct itself with dignity and as constructive opponent and strive to further strengthen it’s image.
