Boarding at different railway station within the same city
On 10 November 2018, I along with my family consisting of 4 adults have booked tickets in 2A (AC 2-Tier) with WL/1 To WL/4. It got confirmed just before chart preparation except WL/4 which was RAC Side berth sharing with another passenger.
The TTE demanded money from both the passengers for confirming berths. When we were hesitant, he told us that we boarded the train at the wrong station Mangalore Central (MAQ) instead of Mangalore Junction (MAJN). As layman we think since both stations are within the same city & the distance between the two stations is less than 2 kms it's fine to board the train at Mangalore Central (MAQ) which is closer to the hotel we stayed & also the train halts for 20 minutes at MAQ & just 2 minutes at MAJN & further Since 2 of the passengers are senior citizens having health issues & as it was past 9 pm MAQ station was preferred. The TTE wanted us to get down & go to the station as per reservation though charges were same for both the departing stations. By then the train moved & he insisted we pay Rs.200/- as it amounts to traveling without proper tickets. We had to pay & he allotted berth to the RAC passenger in one second. He also took money from the other passenger who was lady & allotted berth. Does this bloody TTE is an employee or owner of the train?? Why not railway permit passengers to board at any station within the same city possessing tickets? Are we in a democratic country or monarchy? Since we were not sure of confirmed berths we booked tickets by bus also which we cancelled bus tickets on knowing confirmed tickets by losing money as train has toilet facilities which is required for the seniors mostly at night. I have no proof of paying bribe but what action can we take to curb this menace?
I feel advance reservation should be just 24 hours before the scheduled departure of trains by levying extra charge which should go to railways rather than highly paid TTEs, so that genuine passengers get berths. If this is implemented tatkal could be scrapped as redundant. It's highly impracticable to predict a journey 4 months in advance & why so many reservations viz. advance, tatkal, premium tatkal (which amounts to sale of tickets by black) & is of no use for those wishing to travel in an emergency as there's no surety of getting tickets. Reservation of tickets should be allowed only at railway booking centres & online by individuals & agent booking should be scrapped. This will ensure proper allotment of berths to genuine passengers curbing immoral practices by railway staff looting the passengers. I hope authorities would look into the Matter.
How berths came live after paying bribe? That means cancelled tickets berths are encashed by TTEs official corruption allowed by railways.
Don't make Sir Churchill prediction true. more
