Bringing up a generation of harassed children

Recently someone came with a complaint that his daughter in 1st standard in a Delhi Private school is not allowed to carry water bottle to class room, which is not air conditioned and has not got enough fans. Children in this school are told to drink water and take food only in lunch break time and that is 15 minutes.
The child was admitted due to acute dehydration one day and parent was rebuked by school authorities for not grooming the child properly and also for writing a request to the Principal to allow children take water bottles to class rooms. This is when Delhi records 40 degree temperature in summer.

Children who come late in the morning are asked to stand with both hands raised with the backpack bag on their shoulders as punishment outside class room. The school Guard gives this punishment.
Often children are told they are very lazy in everything.

The kids are scared to go school everyday as if corporeal punishment is awaiting them for the day.

---------------------------------------------------

Now school has its own arguments against this, such as,

1.The children may spill water on the floor of class room;

2. By drinking water they may have to often go to wash room during class

3.Not much time should be wasted on talking during lunch break and they should finish lunch in 10 to 15 minutes and rush back to class room

4 Children should not come late. This is deterrent punishment.
---------------------------------------------------
This is the situation in private schools of Delhi. Delhi Govt. should conduct some surprise checks in these schools and check whether schools have made sufficient arrangement for the health and safety of students especially in junior classes. Many parents are not complaining because first of all they got admission with great struggle and secondly, they are scared school authorities may give the TC and send out their wards.

Ultimate sufferer are the young kids and they grow up scarred of schools and education. more

Complaint to the Education Minister. more
just pull out of your kids from these schools and get their admission in another school which is more student and parent friendly. We all should remember our days when we used to go to school. Did schools and parents go overboard those days in caring their kids or school decorum yet they were able to manage deliver very good education while maintaining the school building. These days, schools have become machine churning out educated human robots in the form of students. I dont see the yesteryear real relation between school/teacher and students/parents. more
I wonder if the people running such schools have ever sent their children to attend those schools. more
When you have 3rd raters to govern, administer and run schools (most of them...and especially all government schools), what else can you expect. I weep for these poor children, for whom the best years of their lives is spent virtually in "jails" or "torture chambers". We as a society are also yet to come to terms with being civilized. Which entails sensitivity to numerous issues pertaining to child development in line with societal goals. Moreover, the biggest joke is education being the fiefdom of the Central Government !!! Amazing !!! They set the standards....i.e. the bottom of the gutters. more
Schools have their own valid reasons to prohibit drinking water during a class.. At a PTA it could be suggested that children have a 5 min break between classes to drink water during summer months. more
