"Buy one, get one free"........ a misleading slogan?
I wonder whether thought has been spent by consumers on the sales-ad titled "Buy One Get One Free" and related slogans.
Even hotels/guesthouses boldly announce: "Pay for two nights and get the third night free".
My question is whether this should be accepted as permissible. Basically it appears blatantly misleading because the seller charges for two/three anyways.

These are promotional techniques/marketing by many companies for the purpose of attracting more customers, liquidation of old/not in fashion/season/obsolete inventory/saving of space and for a better money circulation/liquidity for better utilization on money, for gaining more market share, taking advantages of large scale economies. No law at present can prevent it and these practices will continue depending upon the product cycle, state f companies, expansion & diversification in companies. So be careful and enjoy this economy of discounts to your advantage carefully. more

Such advertisements are permissible, unless barred by law. These are not necessarily misleading. Bonafide advertisements are gainful economically in long run. more

In a market economy, marketing of products takes different different forms, and quite certainly misleading gets subsumed into it. The consumer courts are there is protect the bonafide interests of consumers, and these do. Unfortunately, justice cannot be secured at the click of the mouse. And as yet class action suits have not acquired the reputation these have in the US. more
