Buying a suv in India is 50% giving tax

What's the most taxed product in India? It's not cigarettes, a can of aerated beverage or a bottle of whisky or beer. It's an AUTOMOBILE.
It attracts the highest GST rate of 28% & a cess on top of it between 1-22%. Effectively, 50% of the cost of a diesel SUV like Creta is tax more

Diesel SUVs - Toyota Innova, Mahindra Scorpio, Mitsubishi Lancer and so on के स्वामित्व वाले पूंजीपतियों ने कितनों के दमा का इलाज करा, खासकर उसका जिसके पास केवल साइकिल खरीदने का सामर्थ ही है? India's richest 100s X richer than poorest. See OXFAM international report titled India: extreme inequality in numbers. Polluter pays! Diesel SUV tax justified. more
Good, tax the durable. consumable + durable = usable product. Subsidised consumable, diesel, the reason! Pollution the result. Tax diesel SUVs please. more

Very well said more
GST is calculated on the invoice value and the cess is calculated on the tax amount i.e. the GST amount. So in this case even if the cess is taken to be the maximum of 22% it will amount to 6.16% of the invoice value. So the total tax component would work out to be 28% + 6.16% = 34.16% and not 50%. Also please not that the diesel is the most polluting fuel and therefore to discourage its use, the vehicles using diesel are taxed at the highest rate. This is akin to sin tax. more
