Bye-Bye VIP Culture

ONCE a fierce critic of VIP Culture, the AAP Government has issued a list of practices to be followed by official while dealing with MPs and MLAs.

"Officials should show courtesy and consideration to MPs and MLAs," the order says, adding that "officials should rise to receive the public representatives and see them off too". "Arrangements should be made in advance to receive them in office if a visit is already scheduled," the order says. more

Well said by Mr. Sanjeev Bhatnagar, the aim should be to COMMAND respect and not DEMAND respect. This happens everywhere in offices, homes and everywhere. Only the weak and insecure 'demand' respect and normally the ones who are good at their jobs can afford to defy these insecure masters and superiors. Some of us must have read the post by Mr. Kailat Vaidyanathan on what Mr. PM Nair has said about Abdul Kalam saheb in an interview on DD Podhigai. That kind of humility can only come from being secure. The order talks about basic courtesies to be extended by the employees in the govt to the political representatives. If the employees don't accord basic courtesies to the people's representatives who are above them in hierarchy and are supposed to give them directions and pull them up in case they don't perform, will these employees then show any respect or courtesies to the rest of the public? Certain people here seem to think that without hierarchy, any society or organisation can easily function-- i have yet to come across such an utopian impractical world either in history or my own limited experience. more
The Officials are Public servants & the elected MLAs & MPs are Representatives of the people - it is natural that the officials show a certain modicum of respect to the elected reps - it is in fact a respect to the position, irrespective of the qualities or abilities of the person. The problem has become acute here in Delhi because of the tussle between the Delhi elected government & the officials who feel they are governed by the LG & the Central govt rather than the local Delhi govt. The simple directive of observing common courtesy & etiquate should improve the working relationship. more
Respect certainly is earned by virtu of good conduct , good work to the socitey and to the nation There Representative is the asset of the society and should be respected without fail.Respect to any one is never bad more
Why only for "representatives" of the public? SHouldn't this apply for the public as well? more
