Calcium Supplements

What are some of the good calcium supplements which people have found to work? Stronger bones more

The reply post of Mr. Rajeev Arora is one of the best I have seen in this forum. Some more about milk- many of my foreigner friends actually found it funny when we Indians, consider Milk as a Vegetarian food. It really has no logic. Milk is a pure Non-Vegetarian food and even if you consider sources killing animal is only Non-Veg then Unfertilized (Poultry) eggs are also Pure vegetarian food. while in India people talk about 'ethics' while advocating vegetarianism, Milk undoubtedly is the "Most Unethical food" in the world and no animal except human being consume milk of other animals meant for their babies. Even as per present medicinal practice bone loss is mainly due to lack of exercise, non exposure to sunlight and for many medicines (like Anti Gastritis H2 blockers). more
A lot of people take calcium supplements because some doctors recommend them in the belief that it will help make the bones stronger. There is no scientific study which supports this but so called 'expert opinions' which are not backed by any evidence. As a matter of fact, the reputed studies find that - there was no increase in bone strength due to calcium supplements - calcium supplements actually increase the risk of heart attacks - calcium supplements were found to increase the risk of kidney stones - they have been found to increase the risk of certain cancers. Some more food for thought: - Only one mammal species (humans) out of 5500 +, drinks milk in their adult life. - Out of all the mammal species only one gets very high level of osteoporosis - humans again! - Out of the 190 + countries in the world, the countries with the highest milk intake also have the highest fractures rate. All of the above is contrary to the common wisdom and hard to accept but it is true. Some of the things which can actually help increase the bone strength: - Weight bearing exercises such as walking, running and weight training will actually help strengthen bones. - A large number of people are deficient in vitamin D. Speak to your doctor and get your vitamin D levels checked. Vitamin D can certainly help strengthen bones. - Stop drinking milk except maybe as an occasional shake, sweets, ice creams etc. more
sesame seeds (TIL) are very good source of calcium, One can eat it with Gur (Jaggery) in the form of Ladoos. more
