Cancellation for confirmed tickets of Sr. Citizens

The new cancellation charges applicable for confirmed sleeper class tickets are steep, almost 50% or more at times, when the distance is around 500 to 700 kms. The concession. A senior citizen normally plans and books tickets in advance and has to cancel he same in case of health or other social issues. In such case he/she has to pay a steep price of Rs.120/- The service tax charge levied is also not part of the refund. This hampers a senior citizen when the seats are not available at short notice. The Ministry of Railways and Revenue dept of Railways with IRCTC in loop should give some thought to this for a retired Sr. Citizen. more

1. 4 month advance time is really useless. Even the Govt. orders/ Govt examination interview schedule do not allow four month time period. But the same is expected from common man. 2. First of all, IRCTC e-tickets should be freed from clerkage charge, because, IRCTC service charge is there. On the other hand, during booking through irctc, passenger fills up forms and does all necessary computer works. So where there is no clerk, clerkage charge is being collected. 3. The amount/percentage of clerkage charge also should be reviewed. Considering a clerk takes 2 minutes for booking a single ticket, he will make 210 bookings/cancellation in 7 hours. When Rs.40/- is deducted for cancellation of Waitlisted tickets, it implies clerkage charge is Rs.20/- for each visit. So in a day rail is collecting 210*20 = Rs.4200 per day (4200*25 working days =10500 per month) using the name of a mare clerk. This is not British period. more
I agree with Mr. Desai , anything can happen with Sr. Citizen at the last moment. they always plan ahead but nobody can foresee contingencies. So Ministry should take a liberal view on this subject . Mr.Rajesh Goel whom should one tell a valid reason for cancellation? more
their should be some valid reasons for cancellation for refund. more
Advance booking before 4 months is not helpful. It is very difficult to plan travelling before 4 month. So it should be rolled back to 60 days again. more
Service tax becomes due at the time of commencement of service. there are 3 types of service tax one is in fare, other is in computer booking & 3rd, is 1.82 on bank charges for the single journey.what is the use of save paper then? more
