Thanks for adding to the list. Mammography in breast cancer has been reported controversial off late with about 35% false positives. Screening with this should ideally start at 50 years of age. Papsmear and HPV as we shared are the tests for cervical cancer. Later post treatments to CeCa, mRNA tests or cytology are also available. PET scan and MRI or even PET CT are advanced tests for a high risk patinet or followup during and after treatment for many cancers. Please note there are three main reasons "as of now" as to why the cancer may happen. These are Genetic, Environmental and Lifestyle. There are essentially three types of tests to detect cancer. these are predictive, Diagnostic and Therapeutic test. The first one, " Predictive" test is the one that assist patient with high risk of cancer and support some lifestyle changes. "Diagnostics tests" are ones that many people have to undergo due to the fact that they report to doctors with few symptoms such as sudden weight loss, pain, lump or extreme fatigue. There may be other symptoms too. based on the symptoms the doctor decides to order a few tests that are blood tests, Urine or tests that are take from a site of lump called as biopsy. The other tests that a doctor may recommend is imaging Diagnostics tests such as Ultrasound, MRI or CT scan to confirm a diagnosis of cancer. Therapeutic tests are the test that assist in accessing or finding out if your therapy is working or not. these test can either be done just immediately after particular cancer has been diagnosed to ascertain the course of therapy, can also be done during initial therapy or immediately after the last therapy to see if there is another therapy that might work. These test can be Blood tests, Imaging tests or tests that are DNA tests that can help decide the therapy tat is more likely to work, may cause less or more toxicity and lately there are DNA tests to also confirm if the cancer is likely to spread or not. some tests done at TMC by Aceprobe.com lab can help predict this from blood. A CAUTION, one should not likely consider a predictive test just because as near relative or a dear is suffering from the disease. Cancer is in every body as far as the hypothesis of DNA may go. However this may be in a latent or say sleeping state unless we change our life style and environment around us including our thought process that contributes to the change in DNA, also by food. Consider predictive test only if you have a high risk and have some symptoms that are likely to make you more susceptible to cancer or other diseases. Screening tests these days are the main work of Govts and others. These screening tests can be Mammographies for Women, PSA Prostate Specific Antigen for Men and also Pap Smear or HPV DNA virus test. There are controversies, limitations and lack of consensus across all these screenings tests and one must discuss with an experienced doctor to help identify the risk factors, predictability power and over diagnosis if any found or may occur.
